All too often the women was not able to choose but was raped. In the case of minors her understanding may be doubted, in the UK a girl under 16 is deemed to be legally unable to give consent. Girls who are mentally impaired may not understand. I don’t think you realize that if this line is pursued you are conceding the right to abortion in these circumstance. Is that your intention?

For most of the 17 years (roughly 1 year gestation, plus 16 to legal age of consent) it is not possible give consent, for the remainder it is illegal (in UK) the whole idea is bizarre. Again, the next suggestion is bizarre and unreal. I you are serious it suggests you are detached from reality.

Apart from the issue of the mother’s rights over her own body you are ignoring the other key issue. Some religions claim ensoulment takes place at conception, which is impossible to prove either way. It is a religious claim which you want enforced by criminal law on people who do not believe it. Many people regard this to be indefensible.

As you know there are many different views as to what date after conception should be the latest acceptable. This is mainly a medical question, then a moral question rather than religious, legal and political. There needs to be a legal framework, impartial counselling to help the mother. But as far as possible enforcement of a moral action / inaction should be avoided ---- enforced morality cease to be moral.

This is my reasoning so far in a matter for which I have little knowledge or experience. It didn’t arise but If my late wife had wanted an abortion I consider that my obstructing her would have been unthinkable, my role would have been to provide support.

Very glad you brought this subject up. First of all I agree with you. Don’t know what the words “fascist” and “nihilistic” mean(maybe you could define them). But they sound pretty much in favor of killing. As with a lot of sins, abortion is an “objective sin”. And sure, there are different reasons why people want them.
But what makes no sense to me, being pro-life, is why does the mother not get indicted, but the doctor may be convicted for at least 10 years?

And why does a doctor do time-in some states- when it’s the mother who wants the abortion? It makes no sense, and I think it’s time for the mother to take some of the doctor’s punishment. After she’s settled down a while. She after all could believe that the baby’s a life, but not care.
