Is it even POSSIBLE to determine whether or not fertilization (before implantation) has or hasn’t taken place???
Is an ultrasound able to view the size of a sperm and ovum???

I’m curious… because if it’s not even detectable, then it’s impossible to know whether or not fertilization has taken place!.. and that knowledge is the basis for whether or not this drug is permissible, right???

To Em_in_FL: an ovulation test is used to determine the potential for fertilization.
If the woman has ovulated, the assumption is made that the egg has been fertilized.
In this situation, Plan B can not be administered.

See post # 6 for Bishop Lori’s explanation of how Plan B is used in Catholic Hospitals in Connecticut.

Go with Love, Go with God

Thus starts the “slippery slope” Do these Bishops understand what they are doing?

The problem in Connecticut is that a bill has been passed preventing hospitals from determining if ovulation has already occured.

So once again the COD shows its true colors, that it would rather kill babies to push their agenda than decrease the instance of abortion or protect a woman’s health. These types of people, who claim separation of Church and State only when it suits them, make me ill, their hypocrisy is revolting.

Really, there is a huge risk here…just read up on how LH tests work. 😦 And, even if accurate…there are studies showing how abnormal a woman can be in regards to when she ovulates, sometimes even ovulating twice! And, anything is possible…nothing is 100 percent when you believe in GOD! Really, what troubles me most is that it is even hard to argue certainty, in that a woman will not ovulate and not lose her baby to PLANB once you read up on how LH tests work and how you know PlanB works!!!

IMHO, they have gotten some bad advice on the medical side as to this test’s certainty and are also confused as to how PlanB works.

Does the vatican know about this?

In all charity, maybe there is a misunderstanding of the science, but my cynical side seems to think maybe it’s not an accident. 😦

One line of reasoning would be that if it could be confirmed that the woman could not be pregnant, then it would be permissible to give the medication as a placebo. Although I don’t know why you’d want to let somebody think they’ve killed their child.

Some of the responses suggest that we do not all understand everything that’s involved here. On the other hand, the bishops are duty bound to consider all aspects of an issue before making a decision; that’s a grave responsibility and I would give them the benefit of thinking they take it very seriously.

It’s easy to make blanket, off-the-cuff statements about circumstances like rape that most of us, God-willing, will never have to cope with but while we do let’s consider the feelings of those readers who’ve had to face that terror.

There is such a thing as being more Catholic than the Pope.
