“Knocking over signs is fundamentally different from knocking over people.” Really? Duh.
I’m not suggesting we condemn this guy out of hand because he might or might not run someone over, but he at least ought to be questioned by the authorities to see if he’s likely to do so. He might be a whack job nutcase, and in such a case those who might choose to picket his establishment would need to be warned of the possibility of him going off the deep end.
He could have been drinking, and that certainly should be investigated. People in their right minds don’t use their motor vehicles in such a dangerous manner.
In certain areas of the USA there are laws against “road rage”, and this would certainly qualify in some of those areas.
The article says the signs are on public land; looks like a public easement just off the road. In many communities in the United States those areas are OK to put up such signs. But whether or not the signs are there legally is irrelevant. Taking the law into one’s own hands in such a manner is immoral, especially in the dangerous manner in which this guy did so.
Using common sense, however, one would think if the signs bothered the guy so much he’d have sometime in the year that they’ve been up, called the city and had them removed.
Purposely driving off the road to destroy another’s property is simply dangerous. We don’t know what is around that area but if there is a sidewalk, other parked cars, someone’s house, etc., the guy could have very easily lost control of his car and done some serious damage or hurt or killed someone unintentionally. See the picture in the article; looks like there’s a ditch there.
And yes, I’d say this about any idiot that would do the same thing to “pro-choice” signage or “whatever” signage. And, I would have no problem whatsoever if the signs were there illegally and he just walked up and removed them.
How you can justify using a motor vehicle in this manner this dangerous manner is truly baffling.
