Abortion preeminent issue, global warming not urgent, say bishops

abortion stands as the single issue and the bishops state it perfectly IMHO
“The threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives it destroys.”
I could see people voting for social issues if the social programs worked instead of keeping people in poverty or if the healthcare proposals were real instead of being built on lies and not doing what it was set out to do.

but in the US we don’t see that and our choice is clear and RIGHT.

how many of them are climate scientists, or even scientists. Yes abortion is an issue, there are others that are important and urgent too.

St. Pope John Paul II is clear on it (bold mine for emphasis)
The inviolability of the person which is a reflection of the absolute inviolability of God, fínds its primary and fundamental expression in the inviolability of human life. Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture- is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.

One does not cancel out the urgency and importance of the other IMHO

the US does not have poverty as seen in other parts of the world.

one has many solutions the other is final.

60,000,000 and counting dead is something the world has in common and it is not good.

this cancels out the social issues IMHO

And the usa has great ability to help what is going on in other parts of the world, and not necessarily financially. If there is not enough potable water then humanity will suffer, for instance.

How do we grow enough food to feed everyone. This is not a social issue, it is a physical issue, food and water. We can have both as urgent issues, why do we only have to have one? Such a polarised view IMHO

because the one is final and being spread to the world by liberal’s political policies and the UN’s. there is an attack on the unborn of this world and it is being tied to everything.

I agree that the right to social issues is false and illusory if the right to life is not defended with maximum determination.

  1. Without the right to life, how can anything else matter? All other rights are worthless unless a person is born.
  2. The United States, publicly and privately, provides an incredible amount of help to the rest of the world. I doubt that there is any other nation on Earth that comes close.

Let us assume that the culture hates us and they hate life. Now do we expect a pro-life movement to win? If yes, then lets save the unborn. If no, the culture was going to hell, maybe we can make sure the Catholic Church of 2264 has a good climate.

I believe we should cooperate in areas we agree upon- with secular and religious bodies. Find common ground.

Wen we need to stand alone on social issues we should do that as well.

Abortion should fall under the goal of strengthening the FAMILY.

It is the domestic Church which the manipulative, crafty, and nasty enemy of Jesus is focused on. When he can cause harm and strife in the family, the rest is to his advantage.

There are many things that are urgent issues, but as for the preeminent issue, there can be only one.

Your operative word is “could”. Abortion “does” affect millions of lives NOW.

Ah, the (non)catholic reporter and its rather, um, creative headlines strikes again. . .
