If a child was going to be born with something wrong with it and during labor the mother’s life was in danger would abortion be alright then? Just a hypothetical. The mother could always have another.
Ok. I see. She might not be able to have another. I didn’t know a C-section answered all those problems. If the mother’s life is in danger with this one, how can it be said that she could always have another? Besides, at that point a C-section could be done to save both lives.![]()
Yes I suppose so. I thank all for their opinions and I hope it’s in line with the church:thumbsup:If there was “something wrong” with you, would it be ok to kill you?
Your parents, or some other couple, could always have another.
I think the c-section point answered your second question. To elaborate on your first, we give medical treatment to born people who have horrible disabilities and injuries. I don’t see why the unborn would be an exception to that.If a child was going to be born with something wrong with it and during labor the mother’s life was in danger would abortion be alright then? You seem to be confused regarding the humanity of the chld. The child is a human person and has inviolate dignity. No, it is never moral to kill a baby.If a child was going to be born with something wrong with it and during labor the mother’s life was in danger would abortion be alright then?
Wow.The mother could always have another.
No. This is a false argument, because it almost never happens. Many surgeries can be done on the baby IN the mother’s womb, and there is rarely a case where the mother’s life is in danger because a baby has some abnormality. If a child was going to be born with something wrong with it and during labor the mother’s life was in danger would abortion be alright then? Not sure that this reads quite how you intended.PaulfromIowa;10708644:

Wow. This thread has opened my eyes. I’m glad I now understand that the church believes if a death unintentionally occurs it’s not abortion. I’ve never been for it but I was inquiring about a hypothetical. For a little perspective.
Saint Gianna Beretta Molla (October 4, 1922 – April 28, 1962) was an Italian pediatrician, wife and mother who is best known for refusing both an abortion and a hysterectomy when she was pregnant with her fourth child, despite knowing that continuing with the pregnancy could result in her death. She was canonized as a saint of the Catholic Church in 2004.

Her daughter’s name is Gianna Emanuela. She’s a wonderful woman, I got to meet her a couple of years ago.
I meant some kind of terminal condition in which the baby wouldn’t have lived with or without treatment.I think the c-section point answered your second question. It’s good to ask questions, that’s how we learn and grow.Wow. This thread has opened my eyes. I’m glad I now understand that the church believes if a death unintentionally occurs it’s not abortion. I’ve never been for it but I was inquiring about a hypothetical.
Doesn’t matter. It is still immoral to kill the baby. We all die. Some sooner than others. We may not euthanize a person, born or preborn.I meant some kind of terminal condition in which the baby wouldn’t have lived with or without treatment.
Ok intentional killing is what’s called “intrinsically” evil in this case right? Does that mean that some part of your soul is killed? Loss of Charity of santifying grace and maybe more?A lot of the confusion on abortion issues are due to not understanding what an abortion is. Abortion is the intentional killing (i.e., murder) of the child. That is never acceptable. The correct and moral course of action is to attempt to save both. There is no sin if mother or child dies during the heroic effort to save both.
This is getting more into euthanasia territory, which I also reject. Since every life is precious and not ours to take, I’ve never seen nor never will see “mercy killings” as okay.I meant some kind of terminal condition in which the baby wouldn’t have lived with or without treatment.
