  8. Can’t answer with the wording the way it is. I agree with “Abortion is a form of murder,” but not the rest.

I can’t keep flipping back and forth from questions to answers.
If there were no religion, natural law would tell us abortion is wrong since deepest human instincts are for propagation of the species and protection of the young. the fact that Greeks and other ancient societies had prohibitions against it, along with laws against murder, theft etc. shows this is innately understood.

If there were no religion, we still have a constitution in this country that expressly protects the right to life. Until that constitutional protection, struck down in 1973, is restored we are in effect operating without a constitution to guarantee our rights.
 
WOW! Thanks for the responses. And yes, I realize now that #8 was poorly worded. I’ll assume a five for those who explained that abortion is never necessary. (that is, I’ll take out the part about the mother’s life)

This is an extremely poorly worded question designed to manipulate the responses. However, taking the question to mean “limiting the ability of women to have abortions results in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions”, the answer is 1
not my wording, NARAL’s. It’s hard to get very clear statements from them…

Seeing that this issue along with “homosexual marriage” is going to the Culture War’s “Ground Zero,” I’d be more than happy to answer your questions.

A “5” in the sense that politics is now becoming the mouthpiece of the Culture Wars; for example, the economy as such was not a primary focus of most voters in this election; Rather, the moral issues were. That politics now represents the fight for our culture’s soul makes the interest in and knowledge of it all the more relevant.

  6. Well the first part is correct. The “right to an abortion” is slowly being negated. It’s a false right based on the perversion of natural law, but the second part of the statement is cause for disagreement. If abortion is not available, it may force men and women to be more responsible sexually upon realizing that actions do have consequences and that Big Brother government is not going to be there to bail you out. So for that answer, even though it’s worded a little awkwardly, I’d give a “1.”

  8. A “5” with the following qualifier; regardless of the mother’s condition, a doctor does not have to perform an abortion on the child. The doctor would try to save both the mother and the child, and whatever happens while heroic measures are being undertaken than happens. But no responsible doctor would kill a life to save a life.

1 - It is because of the disintigration of the dignity of the human person that has caused more abortions. The “choice” was made when the individual chose to indulge in sexual acts. Abortion is a way to avoid the responsibility of the choice.

    1. I agree with Tantum Ergo, who said: “There is never a justification for abortion. In cases of ectopic pregnancy, for example, removing the tube (where the child could not survive or has already died) is a legitimate procedure, because the mother would indeed die of acute septicemia or other toxic embolic problem otherwise. The death of the child is the effect, not the cause, of the procedure in this case.”
