I like to share the following statistics done reported by Wikipedia, Inc. Despite the many idea that abortion is only limited to rape and incest, the women who done it have other reasons.
Abortion rates also vary depending on the stage of pregnancy and the method practiced. In 2003, from data collected in those areas of the United States that sufficiently reported gestational age, it was found that 88.2% of abortions were conducted at or prior to 12 weeks, 10.4% from 13 to 20 weeks, and 1.4% at or after 21 weeks. 90.9% of these were classified as having been done by “curettage” (suction-aspiration, D&C, D&E), 7.7% by “medical” means (mifepristone), 0.4% by “intrauterine instillation” (saline or prostaglandin), and 1.0% by “other” (including hysterotomy and hysterectomy).[4] The Guttmacher Institute estimated there were 2,200 intact dilation and extraction procedures in the U.S. during 2000; this accounts for 0.17% of the total number of abortions performed that year.[5] Similarly, in England and Wales in 2005, 90% of terminations occurred at or under 12 weeks, 9% between 13 to 19 weeks, and 1% at or over 20 weeks. 71% of those reported were by vacuum aspiration, 5% by D&E, and 24% were medical.
The article further states,
A 2004 study in which American women at clinics answered a questionnaire yielded similar results.[8] In Finland and the United States, concern for the health risks posed by pregnancy in individual cases was not a factor commonly given; however, in Bangladesh, India, and Kenya health concerns were cited by women more frequently as reasons for having an abortion.[7] 1% of women in the 2004 survey-based U.S. study became pregnant as a result of rape and 0.5% as a result of incest.[8] Another American study in 2002 concluded that 54% of women who had an abortion were using a form of contraception at the time of becoming pregnant while 46% were not.
Inconsistent use was reported by 49% of those using condoms and 76% of those using oral contraception; 42% of those using condoms reported failure through slipping or breakage.[9]
Some abortions are undergone as the result of societal pressures. These might include the stigmatization of disabled persons, preference for children of a specific sex, disapproval of single motherhood, insufficient economic support for families, lack of access to or rejection of contraceptive methods, or efforts toward population control (such as China’s one-child policy). These factors can sometimes result in compulsory abortion or sex-selective abortion. In many areas, especially in developing nations or where abortion is illegal, women sometimes resort to “back-alley” or self-induced procedures. The World Health Organization suggests that there are 19 million terminations annually which fit its criteria for an unsafe abortion.[10] See social issues for more information on these subjects.

Like the article states, only 1% of abortion is as result of rape, and 0.08% is used for the case of incest. You wonder what the other reasons are. Like the article states, women who have abortion done on them are due to social pressures, i.e, financial reasons, opposition to single motherhood, etc.

What I found shocking about the article is that 46 million abortion are performed every year worldwide. You wonder how many babies were killed since the Roe v. Wade in 1973. That’s over billions of unborn babies killed. **1.60 billion babies **to be exact.

I have a difficult time seeing how anyone could think that the majority of abortions are performed because of rape or incest.

I personally think the primary reason a woman chooses to abort her child is what I would call “grave inconvenience”. For example:
  1. A 17-year-old girl conceives a child after having sex at a party. Even though she will be able to continue with her schooling, she will end up being a teen mother, and the boy will be required to provide child support.
  2. A 29-year-old wife’s contraceptive method fails and she ends up conceiving. She and her husband together make enough money to cover the essentials for their lifestyle. Having a child would require her to downgrade her lifestyle.
  3. A cohabitating couple, who wishes to have children after marries, “accidentally” conceives. Having a child would disrupt their life plans.
Obviously, none of these even approach being valid excuses for abortion, but they’re all fairly typical in my mind.

None of which I think would justify abortion. I always recall these words from Psalm, “Before you were born, I knew you.”

I still don’t understand why people think abortion is a morally right decision. I mean there are sources out in the web how abortion proceeders are done. Some of the sites I have visited show graphics on how it is done? Yet people think its ok.

Mannyfit, you are so right about this. Having familiarity with medical records, particularly in obstetrics, I can tell you that most abortions are for convenience, and the same women often have more than one. I recall a chart where it was the patient’s FIFTH abortion. And as far as being morally right, I don’t think that morals even enters their minds, otherwise how come the thought of morals does not stop them in the first place? I just think if one could see the products of an abortion, they would be horrified. We have no right to take a life, at 9weeks after conception, at 9 months, or for that matter, at 90 years.

"For women who obtained legal induced abortions and for
whom data on previous live births were adequately reported
(42 reporting areas), 39% were known to have had no previous
live births, and 32% had two or more previous live births
(Table 12). The abortion ratio was highest for women who had
three previous live births (283 per 1,000 live births) and lowest
for those who had one previous live birth (190 per 1,000).

For women who obtained an abortion and whose number
of previous abortions were adequately reported (40 reporting
areas), 54% were reported to have obtained an abortion for
the first time, and 19% were reported to have had at least two
previous abortions (Table 13)."

Of women who had abortions in 2003 from states who reported sufficient evidence about previous abortions:
no previous abortions 53.9%
one previous abortion 25.1%
two previous abortions 10.9%
three or more previous abortions 7.6%
unknown 2.4%

I know that.
I’m a man and a dad. I can’t imagine my wife having an abortion. In fact, I know she wouldn’t. I work with children who have been sexually abused by their fathers, brothers or uncles. I can understand some of these 10-14 yr old girls choosing to terminate the pregnancy. It’s very easy for a guy to say you can’t do that.
The question I have for the guys is How would you react if the Government Forced you to get a vasectomy? What if abortion is illegal in all circumstances. What if each state allows you to only have children before the age of 35. When you are 36, you are forced to get a vasectomy. Would you obey the law? If a guy is convicted of a sexual crime rape, molestation etc. Make a law that forces the ability for him to reproduce. Would you accept such a law?

They can give the baby up for adoption. There are couples out there who cannot give birth.

I would not obey it. Vesectomy is not permitted to deny oneself of producing life. When our morality conflicts with the those of the secular government, we should follow God’s Law not man. For Jesus said, “Give to God what is God, give to Man what is Man.” God gives life. He** alone can give and take it away**. Since the Church is the servant of God, we must be obedient with the Church by rejecting any form of immorality, especially the sins of abortion.

Man has a gift from God. It is called free will. He has the right to choice right or wrong. Forcing someone against his own will is not God’s way.

I have recently been trying to change my “iffy” stance on abortion to be inline with Catholic teaching. I have done some amazing research over the past few days. One thing that I have come across are some amazing videos on youtube.com I wanted to share this one. It really speaks to the amazing gift of life God gives us. This one is beautiful. I also really like the music.

AMEN 👍

God bless you too Mannyfit, take care

Yeah I know someone who had an abortion - and they were cohabitating, even engaged to marry in the coming year. They just didn’t feel ready to have their child yet. They did have a born child two years later.

I remember when their born child was 10 weeks old, the mother was so excited and telling me that it was the size of a twonie ( $2 coin here in Canada ). It felt strange. Why was she so excited about her twonie baby NOW, but she was willing to ignore and dispose of her precious twonie baby two years ago? Mind boggling.
