I never understand why people who disagree with the church want communion, be they pseudo-catholic or protestant. The Eucharist is many things. First, and foremost it is the Body of Christ. But I often think that Catholics forget that receiving communion is also symbolic.
Whenever protestants ask why they can’t take communion in the Catholic Church, the Catholic response is usually focused on the different beliefs in the true presence. This should satify, but protestants often don’t accept this reason because they still see it as their being denied something. It goes to an underlying problem all protestants have with Catholic authority. (I want it, and who is to say you can’t give it to me!)
Instead, Catholics should ask the protestant, “Why do you want to receive the communion?” From the non-believer in the Real Presence point of view, communion is solely symbolic. To them receiving communion is a public profession of solidarity and agreement with the church that you are taking communion with. So the question is: “Why do you want to make a public statement of agreement by your action when you don’t agree? Won’t that be lying? Won’t that be breaking one of the ten commandments? Do you want to profess agreement with a church you disagree with?”
Bringing it back to these pseudo-catholics in Nicaragua, here they are demanding the opportunity to lie. Demanding to have the opportunity to act in agreement, while shouting down words of disagreement at the same time. I admit I don’t know the whole story, but from what I have seen these people are clearly not thinking straight.
