…A woman has the right to determine if her body is going to carry a baby or not…
…If a woman wants an abortion, it’s her body…it’s her right. The embryo isn’t a baby, no matter how much you call it a baby…it’s not.
So it is a baby if you want to get sympathy for your argument and it is not a baby if you need to make your case in a different way.

This seems to be the case by a previous post he made that got removed by the moderators. In which he asked “Condoms, what would you rather she do…”

As soon as it got removed, so here we go again with “Abortion. would you rather she…”
Whoa!! Seems someone may not be the most honest of questioners…huh?

A Troll?

We want to be careful. Despite appearances, we should err as much as possible on the side of the assumption of ‘good intention’ on the part of posters.

Otherwise, they have the chance to play (if inclined) the ‘martyr’ card. .

“Oh you self-righteous Catholics! I come on in good faith and you call me names. How Christian of you. Aren’t you supposed not to 'judge others”?

This can then be pulled out ad nauseam. And we don’t want to even ‘start’ anything, again, if a poster were so inclined, which of course he very well may not be. Again, we assume good intentions unless we get clear proof otherwise.

Not a chance, I’ m no troll and it’ very uncharitable of you to insinuate that I’m a troll.

no idea why that thread was deleted…there were well over 500 responses and lots catholic answered my scenario directly and many others avoided the question entirely. I’m puzzled as to why it was deleted, as some catholics openly admitted they’d thought of the same issue before.

What is everyone afraid of? I thought forums were for polite discussion…even if controversial?

Wasn’t there a great Protestant scholar named John Henry Newman that became fascinated and maybe even obsessed with the controversies between Catholics and Protestants? And after much studying and research to set out to find the one true Church of Christ. Isn’t it said later he became a Roman Catholic and eventually Cardinal Arch Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church and a great preacher of his time. I completely understand in a way why someone might want to present controversial issues/questions. I cannot however understand why someone doesn’t want to study and research for themselves what the Catholic Church has to say about these issues. Instead they come to CAF and get opinions of others. I believe there is a reason why in the AAA discussions are sound off.

People might not agree with the Catholic Church on issues, but the question is did they truly study and find out why the Catholic Church teaches what it teaches?

I want to know what lay Catholics think when confronted with various issues.

I understand, however do you want to know the truth in the end? Remember, not everyone who is Catholic knows for sure some questions presented by you. Do we believe the faith because of what everyone else has to say about it or what is revealed to us by devine revelation. Faith is a work in progress. No one can claim the have arrived. We walk by faith not by sight. I really do hope in the end you do find truth.

God bless you

OK, so I go back to the original post, and examine in my mind the intentions of the OP.
A hypothetical scenario;
Apparently, from a later post, this is NOT a hypothetical scenario.
You have a female acquaintance and you just found out that she had an abortion. This female lives in a state where abortion is illegal. However, the woman lives beside a state that has legalized abortion.
Given that this is now not a hypothetical situation, earlier questions about what state you mean would be once again relevant. Or did you mean country instead of state?
Upon hearing the news, would you rather hear that;

A). The woman sought an illegal back alley abortion.

B). The woman sought a legal abortion in a modern health care facility.

Discuss.
Apparently, from the rest of the thread, there was only one acceptable answer to this question. Many issues have been ignored by the OP, including ones that make the dichotomy posed pointless, most obviously:
  1. Illegal abortions generally take place in a modern health care facility (e.g. doctor’s office)
  2. Legal abortion clinics in most states do not have to meet the same standards as any other type of health care facility, and generally would not meet them.
If you want to know what we think, then you can ask us and we can tell you and then you’ll know. But if what you want is to start an argument , during which you can insult the sincerely held religious positions on which we base our lives as “little ideological boxes,” then in the future I’ll pass.

So I don’t see the point. Your mind was already made up. (“A woman has the right to determine if her body is going to carry a baby or not.”) You had no intention of listening sympathetically to anything we said, although you did not make this clear in the original post. It seems to me like it would have been more honest if you had stated your position from the beginning.

Was the point of this thread to leave people with the unenviable choice between choosing a position that you would attack or a position that you could then use to defend the greatest evil in the US, the legalization of the murder of over one million of the most helpless humans in the country every year?

I had originally assumed this thread to be in good faith. I’m not so sure about that now.

Yes of course I have my own answer. But I’m interested in hearing what a Catholic would prefer, for a woman whose already had an abortion…would they wish for her to have received an abortion in a health care facility or in a back alley.

i would rather she had had no abortion at all.

youre big on these one sided hypotheticals arnt you

That’s not a choice. The woman already had the abortion. God back to the first post. It’s a clear cut hypothetical scenario.

O’kay Thank You:)

If she already had an abortion…she survived…what difference does it make where she had it?

I am truly sorry:o
No problem. I’ve been called a troll a number of times on this forum. What people need to understand is that, yes, I do bring what some may consider controversial ideas. But I am polite, I am respectful and no, I’m not here to mock or demean Catholics.

I enjoy discussions / conversations with Catholics…as I’ve mentioned before, my wife is a Catholic.

Of course she had a choice. Once she made the choice to kill her child the the method she decided to use and who she paid to do it is irelevant-which has been pointed out ad nauseum. It was./is a silly question and you should put no more stock in peoples refusal to answer your silly question than one should in your refusal to answer the multitide of similarly sillly qeustions asked of you in this thread,

If she already had an abortion…she survived…what difference does it make where she had it?
Statistically speaking, one is safer than the other.
Statistically the past outcome has already happened and so it has no probability of reversal, and it has not effect on future outcomes. This is one of the gambler’s fallacies. It does not matter where she had an abortion given the fact that the outcome is common to both scenarios.

These are just false moral dilemmas.
