Hello!
Someone told me that if a child dies in an abortion he/she will go to heaven since a child never had the time to reject God. Thus, my friend says, abortion by itself is bad but dying in abortion has its advatanges. He also said that the only reason why care about pro-life is that we believe in an after life. If there were no heaven we could just kill people. What should I tell my friend?

I know this doesn’t entirely answer your question, but keep in mind abortino is murdering a human being.

So… if that’s all there is to it, wouldn’t that mean that people who don’t believe in an afterlife would just kill people they don’t like?

It sounds like your friend is saying that a baby is better off having never been born into a sinful world, because he/she is “guaranteed” to go to heaven if he/she dies before he/she can sin. The problem with that is we don’t know that. We cannot make that judgement call. We must hope and trust in God’s love and mercy.

The other problem is, though the child never had the chance to reject God, he/she also never had the opportunity to *accept and love *God.

And remember, abortion harms everyone involved. That means the child, of course, but also the mother, father, doctor/abortionist, and others. 😦

The child is still stained by original sin and thus *could *be excluded from the possibility from entering Heaven. Many theologians have wrangled with the “what happens to unbaptized babies who die” problem over the centuries. Many in the past, and some today, have come to the conclusion that such babies would end up in limbo - a place of natural happiness, but w/out the beatific vision of God (i.e. no heaven). The Church neither teaches this nor denies it, she simply suggests that we trust in the mercy of God and pray for their souls.

Abortion is the killing of a human life and is a grave, grave, evil. It snuffs out the life of the infant before they have a chance to live there life and make their own choices.

It is not a Church dogma that those who die in the womb go to heaven, rather, the Church does not for certain know there fate and hopes for there salvation.

The state of the Soul of an individual does not determine what actions are acceptable to the individual. Murder is an objective evil.

Your friend has made up his own theology here. That is not authentic teaching.

I encourage you to read the Catechism section on the Fifth Commandment regarding murder and abortion and try to help your friend see how wrong headed he/she is.

The Church does not know where the unbaptised infants go which is why the Church entrusts them to God’s mercy.

CCC 1261 As regards children who have died without Baptism, the Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God, as she does in her funeral rites for them. Indeed, the great mercy of God who desires that all men should be saved, and Jesus’ tenderness toward children which caused him to say: “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them,” allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without Baptism. All the more urgent is the Church’s call not to prevent little children coming to Christ through the gift of holy Baptism.

Ask your friend if he thinks he’d be doing saints favors then by murdering them anytime he comes across one.

P.S. Don’t take this guy to any audiences with Pope Francis!

P.P.S. Ask him then why atheists aren’t all ax murderers. The guy has very little logical reasoning skills.
