(Abortions)

Ok, so I gathered that taking the pill for medical reasons is permissible so long as the intention of taking the pill is not to prevent pregnancy, I get that, my problem is this. I read that no pill can gurantee that it will not cause an abortion. I read that the primary use of the pill is to prevent ovulation, but the secondary use is if ovulation occurs and prevents the fertizlized egg from implanting. So the question is this, if knowing that the pill can cause an abortion even if the abortion is not intended but a result of taking the pill for medical reason, is it a sin to have sex during marriage while on the pill for medical use?
Also it seems only permissible to use the pill for medical reasons if one abstains from sex while on it?

Personally, I think the Church should promote either abstinence or the use of a condom while on the pill for medical reasons to ensure that an abortion does not occur, but they don’t. I think “double effect” in this case is a cop-out when the abortions are easily foreseeable and just as easily prevented.

Yes, it seems that either way that life never has a chance. I would agree that if the pill must be taken that NFP should be utilized in its fullest to ensure that no fertilization takes place to the best of their intentions…

I have great respect for Father Serpa. Heck, he was the head of the altar boys at my parish when I was a kid. But, I still feel that NFP should be utilized lessening the chances of an UNintended miscarriage, as he states it, from happening. I know that this is not what the Church requires but common sense would direct us to such a practice. We have the means so why not use it?

I would suggest consulting an instructor in this case, since the pill might have substantial effects upon what signs are observable. CM is altered by the pill, I understand.

The couple might want pregnancy, though. A couple can become pregnant while taking the pill, and give birth to a healthy child. I wonder if most medical reasons for the pill also require precision in taking it, like is required if you want it for birth control? Their chances of conceiving would go up noticeably if they didn’t take it at the same time each day.
