I didn’t know where else to post this inquiry, so I chose this forum.
In a few weeks I will be attending a Golden Jubilee Mass and celebration for a sister who taught me in grammar school.
I haven’t attended one of these in many years and am curious as to whether or not gifts are expected. In the past, when I went to one of these, some people would leave a donation for the order in general, but I never saw a gift table per se.
The way so many things have changed in religious communities, I’m curious if bringing a gift is considered “mandatory” or a “non issue” or what.
Some of my former classmates will be there as well and have inquired the same thing.
Is there some sort of Catholic “etiquette” in regard to this that I’m not aware of ?
Our particular class was the first teaching assignment this sister had when she took her vows. Those of us who will be attending were kicking around the idea of making up a memorabilia book for her with photos we have from that time and adding personal thoughts and stories, etc. and thought she might enjoy having that in lieu of individual “gifts”…
We don’t see any “harm” in this, but would like to know if gifts are “expected”.
Any thoughts on this???
