Dear Brother,

I understand what you have in mind, and I don’t close my eye for what happened in the those Islamic world. For me, I would take the definition of Islam very highly which is “Complete surrender to God” (regardless of our perception of who is God w.r.t each of us). What is a religion anyway? To me it is nothing but a set of formalized terminology of the follower. It is not the religion which will bring human into salvation. Surely God will not judge human based on the religion he/she believes in his/her life in this world. To me, God has reveal Himself in so many ways that none of us can limit on How God brings His revelation. So, it is possible that God reveals Himself in the way that other “religion” suggest. Why do we became Christian, not Islam? It is because Jesus himself called us. The fact that Jesus called us to became Christian does not necessarily gives us a superior status compared to other religion. In fact, our duty as Christian is harder compared to other religion, I believe. For example, we are required to love our enemy and pray for those who prosecute us.

Back to the religion of Islam in my point of view. Again, it is just a religion with the same definition w.r.t me. I happen to see with my own eye what a good Muslim can be, what a good Buddhist can be, and what a good Confucianist can be. Anything wrong with the teaching? the Holybook? the Prophets? Surely my brother, God brings good things to us human being, and God will never ever teach us to kill or hate each other. It simply does not make sense even to human mind. What can be wrong is the way that some of the “bad people” interpret the supposed to be good teaching of God in the name of God, even to the point of calling himself as “imam” or “priest”, or whatever. You may argue that their Quran permit the believers to kill anybody who converts to other belief. But again, I don’t believe that such writing came from the angel of Gabriel as claimed. God as we believe, will never force human to believe in Him. An angel of Gabriel will never dictated any kind of hatred words, if he is really came from God.

To me, a good Muslim will be as a good as a good Christian, as good as a good Buddhist, as good as a good Hinduist, etc. Only our theology make us differ, but it is not theology which will save us. Why Christian theology matters for me as a Christian? Because from Christian theology: (a) I understand God’s love, (b) such theology make more sense (w.r.t me) compared to other theology that I know, and (c) such theology is more applicable w.r.t me compared to other eventhough I may not meet the standard myself.
