I am not baptized and I have a severe mental illness.

I want to go to Mass sometimes. The local catholic church is only a couple of minutes walk from where I live too.

But I have never been to a Mass in my life at least not on my own. I’ve gone on various occasions with others and with friends before.

I suppose i’m afraid they will think I am a Catholic and I am not. I certainly of course don’t have to go. I’ve no rule saying i must.

But it may speed along my conversion if I did go.Is this too much information sorry.

HI Davedat,

All are welcome in the Catholic Church. You do not have to be Catholic to go. You just cannot take the Eucharist unless you become Catholic. Go to Mass my friend, it is wonderful.

Greetings Davedat,

Go to Mass. The graces you will receive there are many. You cannot take Eucharist though. Many Non-Catholics attend Mass, so there’s not problem with that. In fact the Church welcomes anyone to attend Mass.

Might want to watch a Mass on ewtn if you can get it, so you can be familiar with the Mass before you go.

God Bless.

Most my age don’t go To Mass and I live in a country thats Catholic majority.

With the new wordings of Mass though, not for me to sound utterly selfish but they may be paying more attention to that than me if I go when that starts

Everyone and anyone is most welcome to attend Mass, anytime. If you go, people will think you are Catholic, but it will not make the slightest bit of difference if they find out that you are not. You can do everything that everyone else does, but receive Communion.

God bless you for this, Davedat. The suggestion of watching the Mass on EWTN, or sometimes on a local station on Sunday mornings, so you can get more comfortable with what to expect, is a good one. Also, many churches have small paperback books called missalettes where you can follow along with what is being prayed by the priest and the people attending. You can just sit quietly when you attend Mass, and just breathe in the peaceful and soothing atmosphere of it all. Nobody will think that you are necessarily Catholic, or of any particular faith background. As a non-Catholic, you may not receive communion, but that is not a problem either. Just remain in the pew when others are going up to receive communion. No one will think the worse of you for doing so, and you do not have to explain anything to anybody. And I pray that Our Blessed Savior will grant you the peace, strength, and health of soul that you so earnestly seek!
