So I have a morality question about me and my boyfriend. He isn’t Catholic, but respects the faith and me very much. I’ve also made it perfectly clear that I have a very firm line drawn on sex before marriage, that will not be crossed, and he has respected that wonderfully as well.

My question pertains to how we like to be close with each other. Most things, like cuddling up to watch a movie, small kisses, holding hands, I see no problem with. But one thing kinda makes me wonder- he’s a cop, and sometimes when I get to see him after work, he’s real tired and I offer to rub his shoulders or back for him. It never leads anywhere, but I was wondering, do you think this is too intimate an action?

I really don’t see anything wrong with it. After a long day of work and protecting the people from danger, I truly think the first thing he expects is to be comforted by his loved one. I mean your only trying to make him feel comfortable and relaxed. So I really don’t see anything wrong with it.
When Jesus was tired, didn’t he ask a woman for water? "When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” John 4:7👍

All pleasure, outside of marriage, that is associated with the creative power, that is directly willed or desired, and intentionally acted upon, is a mortal sin.

ya can’t make babies by massages…unless there’s something new out there that I haven’t heard of yet. So with that being said…love God and do as you will! 🙂

Must point out, in fairness, that many parents massage babies’ backs to assist sleep.
So in and of itself, I can see nothing sinful in givng a massage to a friend, even a boyfriend.

The answer to that question should be determined by the physical response of the participants to the activity. From your post, it appears that you do not feel the urge to progress towards more physical touching than just massaging his back. If your boyfriend does not as well, then I can’t see how this can be an occasion of sin. All men are different. Some might be physically aroused by back massages. Perhaps more so if the contact was not hands on shirt, but hands directly on skin.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. I work at Subway, and am hunched over the bain all day long. My BF gives me a nice shoulder rub if I ask. You can absolutely do such a thing in a non sexual way.

If you’re worried about crossing the line, you could do what we do; we watch a movie during. Something funny, or a Disney movie, nothing sexy or romantic. It keeps your head clean and separates a loving act from a sexual one.

How is massaging someone’s shoulders associated with the “creative power?”

I don’t see anything wrong with it as long as it isn’t leading to anything else.
