I am wondering why people are so upset about the thing talked about on the catholic dot com website re: PZ Myers taking a consecrated host and piercing it with a nail, thowing it away with coffee/banana, etc.

I understand that to Catholics, the host is the Real Presence of Christ, but why is coffee and a banana any less sacred than the host? Didn’t God create coffee and bananas and the metal that the nail was made out of?

Maybe Mr Myers was just trying to provoke a reaction. Wouldn’t it be more in keeping with what Jesus taught to “turn the other cheek” and ignore it?

Just wondering…

We believe the host is God. Are you asking why we feel God is more sacred than a banana? Seriously?

The host when consecrated is the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ (a banana while created by God does not contain the body blood ,soul and divinity of Christ). You yourself nor for that matter PZ Myers have to believe this, however, desecrating a consecrated host is vulgarly insulting to Catholics. I would, as you had suggested turned the other cheek had he shown some remorse, but he has not. He has only grown more impudent since that infamous day. I think he quite likes all the attention he is getting.

By the way, you might be interested in researching the Eucharistic Miracles throughout the centuries, especially the Lanciano Miracle. Look up Lanciano miracle and World Health Organization and you will be amazed at what you find.

God Bless!

Well…I believe that a banana IS God…but, since I’m the only person who believes that, you’re going to call me crazy…but I think a banana is more God-like than a tasteless wafer…

Well, then worship the Banana. And Good Luck with your cult.

P.S. Have you bothered to do some research on the Eucharistic miracles?

Neil,
Catholics hold that the Consecrated Host is JEsus, body, blood, soul, and divinity. Even if you do not accept that, it is our faith. This means that to us, to throw away the host is to show a level of disrespect that is beyond the pale.

This person did this to insult Catholics. It is hate speach and actions. If he did that to a Qur’an, the liberal media would blast him and the Muslims would do it literally.

The fact is that he only did this to us because he could.

Personally, I am insulted that you would try to defend him. Would you defend the KKK when the burn a cross in the yard of a black family? Would you defend skinheads who paint swasticas on Synagogs? It is the same

I am glad that I do not know this person.

I am actually not defending him…

and, if you actually bothered to read what he was saying and see the actual photo, he did in fact also did include a page from the Quran and a page The God Delusion in the garbage. Granted, the Quran page was in traslation, not in Arabic, so Muslims would probably say that it wasn’t “really” the Quran…

So, now we are the bigots because we haven’t bothered to read what the poor man said. Boo hoo!

We turn the other cheek when we are personally attacked, but we must stand up for the innocent and especially for God!

“Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.” Mt 21:12.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

PS: Pray to your banana for me!

Sigh.

Even so, you asked this question to Catholics. We don’t believe a banana is God and thus would clearly take offense at what was done but not to throwing away a banana. So I still don’t think your question was serious. It seems you knew what our answer would be…are you just looking for a reaction?

Also I must ask, what is your belief system such that a banana is more sacred than wheat?

His intent was to offend Catholics. I am sorry but that is true. That makes him a bigot. If he tried to offend homosexuals in some major way, he would be off the computer. If he tried to offend Muslims, he would be in hiding.

Catholics are an acceptable target.

Catholics also have a greatly overexagerated sense of “victimhood”.

Maybe we should stop holding on to our “sacred biscuits” and hold on to God as He/She is…

Jai Sri Radhe!

👍

Maybe you should stop holding onto your “sacred banana” and hold onto God as He is, according to Jesus.

Why would wheat be “more sacred” than a banana?

The banana tree provides many more uses than a blade of wheat…

You can cook the fruit and the flower of the banana. You can make useful articles with the stalks of the tree. You can use the leaf of the banana as a plate.

In fact, I would argue that one single banana tree would serve more people in many more ways than a field of wheat.

What can you do with wheat? Make bread. Buns. Pasta. Couscous…seems somewhat limited to me.

Jai Sri Radhe!

Sometimes we do. No doubt. this is not one of them.
Exactly, there was an intent to incite a negative reaction, I also found his words thus far, to be patronizing and condescending.

His OP should have read something like this: “hey look at those crazy Catholics, they believe God’s in a wafer, I’ll show them.”

You completely missed what I was asking. I asked why is a banana more sacred than wheat. I never claimed the converse was true. Also, I didn’t ask you, I asked the poster about his/her views. I’m not looking to debate it, it is a question of curiosity.
