I read them. They were terrible. Only two attempted reason, one using figures from John Jay (1960-2000) and comparing it to more contemporary figures. There are two things that we have to remember in separating truth from fiction. Children seldom lie about this. However adults do, and adults constitute a lot of the accusation. Teenagers will also lie to attack authority figures. However, most of the time, adults and teenagers are hesitant to say anything, and therefore, usually tell the truth.

I did read it. I don’t like double standards.
There are thousands of standards, or none, depending on how you look at the word. One simply cannot compare anecdotes and assume that the difference was the sexual orientation.

Most things on Amazon or whatever have at least a few negative reviews.

I just noticed this reply. In many ways I do agree with you. The thing that keeps jumping out to me though is not all sin is equal and not all mortal sins are even equal. There are sins which cry out for vengeance. At least one of those four sins we are finding out has been running rampant within God’s true church and a push is being made by some to regularize it, while other types of sins (less severe) are being called out by the hierarchy. Is it any wonder we are where we are today?

1867 The catechetical tradition also recalls that there are “sins that cry to heaven” : the blood of Abel,139 the sin of the Sodomites,140 the cry of the people oppressed in Egypt,141 the cry of the foreigner, the widow, and the orphan,142 injustice to the wage earner.143

I realize many people will say that the “sin of the Sodomites” was not Sodomy in general but homosexual rape or even just rape. That still fits what has been happening. God initially started shining a light on this problem decades ago. Since we didn’t take the proper steps to fix this ourselves, He may be stepping in very soon. I think this is a final warning for us.

It’s that the hierarchy actively and systematically covered it up, and enabled countless thousands of others to be victimized.
This is the worst part for me. To be very frank and honest, it makes me question everything the leadership of the Church has touted for a very long time. How can they be trusted? Seriously. At all. In any matter of faith and morals? I really don’t need to hear the holy spirit wouldn’t allow that to happen. If that’s the case, how has it allowed this abuse to happen for SO long; and then allow Church leadership to get away with covering it up for this long?

Yes. I’m really beginning to question just how this could have happened at all if we really are the one true Church.

Rotlex,

There are several things I hang my hat on regarding this horrible situation:
  1. Scandal has been apart of the Church since its beginning. Of the first bishops (aka Apostles), Peter denied Christ, Thomas doubted Christ, and also hand-chosen by our Lord, Judas betrayed Christ. Scandal infected the Church members and will infect other Church members for the rest of time. Christ will sort this out when He separates the sheep from the goats (ref: Mt 25:31-46)
  2. Jesus founded a Church. He did not found “churches”, but rather one Church.
  3. At the founding of this Church, Christ made a promise “and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”. (Mt 16:18). In this promise, He did NOT say “The Church will be protected from the gates of hell”…no…Jesus Christ, Our Lord and God, PROMISED the gates of hell shall not prevail. This certainly implies the gates of hell will be unleashed against the Church He founded, and His promise is that the Church he founded WILL PREVAIL.
There is no question that the gates of hell have been unleashed, and our faith is being tested. Join me in the fight for our Church. Trust in the promise of Christ our Lord. Do not let Satan claim one more victim. God has revealed how this turns out: We win!

You and I are in the same boat. This is what I am struggling with myself and why this impacting me so much. I don’t know what is truth anymore and what isn’t in the Church.

Donna, please see my last post to Rotlex. Hang in there! Have faith!!!

I came back to the Church, amid my friend’s concerns, after the first scandal was public. Now I have experienced this shock first hand. it has thrown the proverbial monkey wrench into my practicing. i quit choir…cold. I missed Mass for the first time in 12 years last week and would have done so again this week had it not been for a wonderful parish that has a 730 pm Mass on Sundays.
