Abraham's Sacrifice - Isaac or Ismael

Our Christian Scriptures says “Isaac”
I am surprised to learn that the Qu’ran says “Ismael”.

Who’s right?
Has anyone studied this to share.

As a Catholic my response is the Bible is the Divine Revelation of God not the Qu’ran therefore even if the Qu’ran states it was Ismael not Isacc I would reject this.

All of scripture, Old and New Testament points to Christ and must be understood in light of Christ. Isaac not Ismael was part of the Covenant God made with Abraham. Isaac was the “First Born” according to this covenant and it was Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac that points to Christ’s paschal sacrifice.

Which, by the way, also has a Marian element. Abraham’s sacrifice was a sacrifice of “Faith” but Abraham was spared by God’s angel of actually having to sacrifice his son. Our Blessed Mother was the perfection of Abraham’s sacrifice of Faith - she was not spared but was present and offered up in the perfection of Faith in the Will of the Father the sacrifice of her Son as she stood at the foot of the Cross.

This leads to the element of Abraham’s sacrifice pointing to the Church as Mary becomes the embodiment of the Church in the Church’s offering of Christ as the perfect sacrifice in the Eucharist.

So for me at least, I simply reject this passage from the Qu’ran. It is irrevelant to me.

I agree with TOME, there is very little to support the Islamic position, IMHO, except the presupposition that the Qur’an is divine and correct…A Muslim could say the same of the Bible, but we have the history to back it…

From what is written in the Bible, Sara sending Hagar and Ishmael away, I wonder if Abraham would have been that reluctant to get Ishmael off his hands. If God orders it and it makes Sara happy, maybe he would opt for household peace.

It is most unlikely that a Christian will be able to speak to Muslims directly of Isaac as the son whom God called on Abraham to sacrifice without some reaction from them. Virtually every Muslim will interject that it was Ishmael and that the attempted sacrifice took place at Mina a few miles north-east of Mecca.
