I can not believe I found this. While looking for an inage of a crusader’s cross, I stumbled onto a site that was peddling anti-Catholic comic books. Here are some of the literary nuggets for your consideration… They are AMLOST too funny for me to be offended.

Vol. 11: Sabotage? - The Vatican doesn’t want the real word of God exposed! ©1979.

Vol. 13: Double-cross - The Vatican’s tricks exposed! ©1981 Review.

Vol. 14: The Godfathers - How & why the Popes started Communism, Nazism, and wars. ©1982.

Vol. 15: The Force - How the Vatican fits the Revelation prophecy of The Great Whore. ©1983.

Vol. 16: Four Horsemen - More dirt on the Vatican Exposed! ©1985.

Vol. 17: The Prophet - How and why the Vatican started Islam. ©1988.

Vol. 20: Jesuits - Satan’s creation of the Vatican to confuse Christians is portrayed. ©2011

and…

The Big Betrayal - 64 page comic of how and why the Jesuits had Lincoln assassinated. ©1981.

The ones in red I found to be the most absurd. How could ANYONE believe such tripe? Un-bleeping-believable… I haven’t read these, nor would I care to, but I just had to share. What do you think? If anyone else has heard of something more bizzare than some of these, I’d like to know what it is… I have to say our detractors are kind of reaching on some of these…

It’s because fundamentalists have the mental capacity of a severely retarded four year old. If they didn’t they wouldn’t be fundamentalists. They’d be Catholic. 👍

What a horrible thing to say about someone else.

Yes, Catholics are made fun of and persecuted in the US, and other parts of the world. However, we as Catholics are called to love one another as our lord told us to do.

Aww…C’mon…It’s kind of funny. I think that is just letting off a little steam.

I don’t find anything funny about people spreading lies and deceiving people, but then it’s probably because it’s a bit personal to me since there are people I know and love wrapped up in this sort of nonsense. And once they are wrapped up in it, it is very difficult to get them to accept the truth and pull them out of the trap that sensationalist writings like that create.

My own brother is deceived by these people that believe this nonsense. They told him the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon. When I explained to him that the whore of Babylon is apostate Jerusalem, because, figuratively, they were ‘in bed’ with Rome to get rid of the Christians, he acted very surprised as if that’s the first time he ever heard that.

People that write those sorts of things are a cancer to the christian community. I am more disgusted by these things than I am amused by them, and, believe me, I have a very good sense of humor ;).

That is just so sad. If they’d actually take the time to research these claims I think they’d find out that they are clearly false.

Chick Tracks! These are probably one of my best tools when talking about the Church to non-Catholic Christian (who are, by and large, intellegent rational folks)…

When they say we are Mary Worshippers, I point to the Chick Track on that and say, “Oh this? you don’t believe this tripe, do you?” to which almost any non-Catholic Christian with a brain will say, “Oh of course not… We know John Chick is a nut case…”

Then we are talking about something we agree upon and it’s much easier to make the (truthful) point that we don’t “worship” Mary.

John Chick is so off the wall that I actually do find him funny, in small doses.

As my brother pointed out in Post #5, these are Jack Chick publications. Chick has a long history of accusing the Catholic Church of being responsible for just about every historical atrocity imaginable. Moreover, his tracts often display a deplorable lack of historical credibility. For example, in many cases he’ll refer to alleged historical places and events without citing any references whatsoever, basically desiring the reader to simply accept his questionable, unsubstantiated opinions as facts. Of course, the real reason why he doesn’t cite any references (or at least credible ones) is because he’s promoting utter fabrications.

I presume that your comment was born out of frustration at having seen so many anti-catholic statements arise from the evangelical community (but it was, shall we say, “less than charitable” nonetheless). But in all fairness, I think one should give credit where credit is due, and it can be said that few Protestants, including evangelicals, pay heed to Chick’s rantings. I say this because I have seen Jack Chick discussed on a number of different Christian forums and it is my experience that few Protestants take him seriously. For example, he was discussed in this thread on a Baptist forum and, although Chick has a couple of supporters therein, the vast majority of the comments are highly critical of Chick publications and comments about Catholicism. Just skim through that link and you’ll see what I mean.

Consider also what I will present in my below post to Holly…

I wish that individuals would also do this, Holly (and more often). Clearly, seeing as Chick Publications have been in business for so long, many people are accepting his nutty ant-catholic allegations as truth without delving into the credibility of them. But there is room for hope, because at least some of Jack Chick’s anti-catholic material has been investigated and publicly denounced by Protestant publications. Consider the case involving probably the most infamous example of a Chick publication: the autobiography of Alberto Rivera. He is a man who claimed to be a former Jesuit priest who decided to make Catholicism’s dirty secrets (or at least what he claimed to be Catholicism’s dirty secrets) publicly known. An Evangelical reporter, Gary Metz, did an investigation and determined Rivera to be a con-man peddling fraudulent data. He wrote and published articles about this in two different Protestant publications, Cornerstone and Christianity Today.

The Cornerstone article was called “The Alberto Story” and is found in vol. 9, no. 53, 1981, pp. 29-31. You can read a brief summary of it in this article (scroll down to the heading, “Cornerstone’s Account”).

Christianity Today’s account was published in Christianity Today, March 13, 1981.

According to this source, Jack Chick responded with a three-page letter (co-signed by Rivera) stating (predictably) that the failure to find any real data supporting Rivera’s claims was because of a Vatican conspiracy to erase all the information. Moreover, he accused both Cornerstone and Christianity Today of furthering the cause of “the anti-christ in the Vatican.”

In response to this, Cornerstone criticized Chick for relying on fabrications in his attempt to debate the merits of Catholicism. Along these lines, Cornerstone stated…

Rivera’s claim to be a former priest, bishop, and intelligence agent for the Roman Catholic hierarchy has been discussed in previous issues . . . we found this claim to be a complete falsehood . . . I am amazed that Jack Chick can have such a paranoiac view of history; the word ‘Catholicaphobia’ immediately forms itself in my mind. It was because of such propaganda that two previous Chick comic books were banned by the Canadian government last October. They refer to it as being in the category of ‘obscene literature.’ Actually, if I did believe there was a secret Jesuit conspiracy, I would say that Alberto Rivera is still a part of it. His ludicrous accusations have damaged the cause of legitimate Protestant/Catholic relations. (Source)

Good responses! I know there are so many anti-Catholic people, websites, and groups out there that there’s no counting them; but some of these titles would have to make even the most grumpy anti-Catholic at least raise an eyebrow. The assasination of Lincoln??? Really? The founding of Islam, Communism, and Nazism??? I would love to see the paperwork of this Jack Chick’s drug-test. There definately has to be some kind of chemical influence here.

You’re kinda behind the curve on this one my friend. Catholic Answers published a great response to all this some years ago. The Nightmare World of Jack T. Chick

You can get copies of the small book they made this into at the CA online Shop.
I bought 25 copies last time it was on sale and intend to get that many more in the next few weeks, since I live in the Bible Belt and want them around because they cover so much. 👍

Admittedly behind the curve, my friend. Although a lifelong Catholic, I’ve only recently begun serious study on Catholicism, and have never heard of Jack Chick before until today. Truth be told, I did find some of his “assertions” to be so utterly crazy, I actually thought they were funny. As I’ve said in a previous post, I think most of the serious anti-Catholics would have a hard time taking this guy seriously. As for those that DO take him seriously, they MUST be devoid of any rational thought. Anyone who would be turned against the Church because of THIS guy must be feeble-minded, indeed.

You’re actually right about that. Many Christian bookstores no longer carry his stuff because it’s so far out there. If you have time, by all means read that link to his Nightmare World and you’ll have several occasions to chuckle as well as growl.

Sadly, there are some folks out there that seem to think he’s telling the truth, and that link will equip you to effectively refute most all of it.
God’s peace,

Only those that are ignorant and do not know any better and those that are too hard hearted in their anti-catholic beliefs actually take any stock in the claims of Jack Chick.

I have seen both kinds.

You’re right about this of course, but we have a spiritual work of mercy to fulfill as well, don’t we. 🙂

The spiritual works of mercy are:
  • **To instruct the ignorant; **
  • **To counsel the doubtful; **
  • To admonish sinners;
  • To bear wrongs patiently;
  • To forgive offenses willingly;
  • To comfort the afflicted;
  • To pray for the living and the dead.

If it’s any consolation, as a member of a Masonic Lodge, according to Jack Chick, I’ve engaged in infant sacrifice and have a hand in running the world.

While I will proclaim my innocence on the infant sacrifice (we wait till they’re at least five years old, hardly an infant) , I can report that running the world is not a profitable as one may hope and the monthly checks are rather merge. Thus I remain poor.

:rolleyes:
