I went to confession (behind screen) with a written list of sins. Before I was finished, the priest said, “We don’t have more time, there are people waiting and you are getting scrupulous with some of these confessions; I am going to absolve you of everything else you wrote on your paper. It will all be forgiven.” If one or more of the sins happened to be mortal that was not stated aloud but written on the paper, would that invalidate the confession because doesn’t the priest actually have to hear/ read/ know each of the mortal sins?
