I took Communion but I was in a state of venial sin, I missed the part of the mass where you are absolved if venial sins though, because the bus was in traffic, when I got to church I (before communion) read in my head the prayer to be forgiven for venial sins. I then took the communion 90% sure I was ok to but I am not sure now. Was I ok to receive communion?

Receiving the Eucharist remits venial sins, as does the use of Holy Water.

Ahh that’s good because I’d i remember correctly I did do the sign of the cross with holy water before I went in

Just to clarify it is mortal sin that must be remitted before receiving Holy Communion.

If you didn’t cause the bus or train to be late on purpose then you may receive if in venial sin. Your purpose was to be on time.

Well, I think it is a good question.

Do remember that it is not necessary that we must receive Communion in a mass.

The disposition of honoring the mass and the Eucharist is important. That would invariably include proper preparation for the mass that when we come up to receive Communion we can give it proper reverence.

Reverence is subjective. It’s up to you whether to receive Communion or not, or whether you think that you have missed much of the mass to be really in a position to receive Communion.

God bless.
