Absolution

Absolution is the removal of punishment due to sin. This is normally received at the conclusion of a good confession.

There is another part however, that is the temporal punishment due to sin. This is removed by good works and here on earth, time in purgatory after death but only if you are going to heaven, or the simple exercise of an indulgence.

A plenary indulgence removes all temporal punishment. A partial indulgence is well, … partial.
