Can someone abstain from meat from 6pm Thursday to 6pm Friday instead of the traditional 24 hour period that starts at midnight?
 
No. The Friday abstainance starts midnight Thursday and goes until midnight Friday. Doing it as you suggest would give everyone an “out” to eat meat for dinner Friday. :tsktsk: 😉

If you go to bed at 6pm Thursday and 6pm Friday? Sure. Otherwise, no – your abstinence should last from the time you get up Friday morning until the time you go to bed Friday night.
