Abuse of the Agnus Dei

We had the same problem at our parish. When I ask our pastor about it, he said that the US bishops had requested approval from Rome and until they hear back from Rome the changes to the Agnus Dei are permitted. I have not been able to find any proof that such an approval has been requested so who knows what the real answer is.

That’s a first.

So, in that logic, I guess at the time before the government passes a law making abortion illegal, it is okay to have abortions?

Besides being an abuse, it also confuses the people. They never know what will be inserted in place of “Lamb of God”. Very confusing. They change things just for the sake of changing something. Just like the readings.

Vozcpa, this story about the US bishop asking for some sort of dispensation in order to make up new verses for the Agnus Dei has come up before. I have carefully gone through the new GIRM and cannot find any such thing. Can you ask your pastor for the documentation? I would love to know where this comes from. Thanks!
