I think the date could have been chosen a little more tactfully - while in the U.S. we generally get along with our Protestant brethren (with a few vocal exceptions) that’s still a very raw point in parts of Europe. There are Catholics in Ireland still living who know people who were killed in the fighting, and whatever their desire for justice I wonder if they’ll go so far as to join this group on “Reformation Day.”
It is interesting he called upon men - certainly there are women who were abused as girls.
Still, if the result is as peaceful as the intent, maybe some good will come of this. I think there is justified frustration at there not being a readily perceivable venue of reform - in other words, do parishoners know how they will be able to help move the Church forward?
