I was stumbling around online and found something that I really think needs a response. I am an outsider to this Diocese and for a few other reasons I cannot share here, I feel unable to respond, but check out some of this stuff from a parish in the Diocese of Saginaw. It troubled me greatly.

Of particular concern, the question regarding homosexulaity, married priests, on believing all the church teaches, and even the response to the DaVinci Code.

yes, many priests and teachers in the Church are transmitting false teaching either because they themselves have not been properly taught and formed, or because they have been taught and choose to reject certain teachings which conflict with their own prejudices, preconceptions, pride, opinions, or lifestyles. so what? The proper person to address this is the bishop of Saginaw and I have not seen him register as a member of the forum. The proper persons to complain are parishioners of that parish, and there are established channels and procedures for such complaints. what point is there in hashing it over here?

far better for someone who has a question or issue with one of the items posted on that website is first, do your homework with the tracts and library on the CA homepage, then enter into a discussion of the topic on the appropriate forum here. but please, folks, let’s do our homework before asking routine questions that have already been answered well and truly on the homepage resources.

The previous bishop of Saginaw was Ken Utener (sp?) and he used to publish things that were … maybe a little “flexible”.

There is a post on this forum about Saginaw and since Bishop Utener’s death, a new bishop has been appointed.

You might want to print out some of the stuff here and send it to him by snail mail.

After only reading one of those, I shudder to think of what the others might say. This site is way off! These people may just be confused rather than bad, but I wouldn’t use them for advice.

As for your questions, I can sum them up in less than 3 minutes:

Homosexuality- a sin, condemned in the Bible and by the Catholic church. This had not and never will change.

Married priests- while there have been extrenuating circumstances that gained exception, the role of the priest is to be married to the church. A married man shouldn’t have two wives and neither should a priest. Priests can’t dedicate their lives to the service of God through his church and at the same time dedicate their lives to a wife and a family.

Believing church teaching- The church is made of normal, sinful humans. There will be people, such as the people at this website, who will get confused or even purposefully lead people astray. But if something is a widespread belief of the church, you should believe it. If something seems only practiced by a few people, it should be held under suspiscion.

The DaVinci Code- Dan Brown is a liar and most definitely not Catholic. Believing in any of his “evidence” is foolish. The Catholic church is guided by God, not by greed and list for power. There are no church coverups, only paranoid people.

If you need more substantial answers, try asking the apologists on that forum.

Just to clarify . . . it’s not a sin to be a homosexual, any more than it is a sin to be an alchoholic. Homesexual acts are sinful, but if a homosexual person abstains from homosexual acts, thay are fine.

I’m sure that’s what you meant, I just wanted to make it clear.

And now you have succeeded in dissing all of the married priests in the Roman rite of the Catholic Church, and all of the married priests in the Eastern rites of the Church.

The married priests I have met manage to dedicate their lives to the Church and to their family quite nicely. and I have met and known more than one celibate priest who certainly managed to cut a pretty fat slice of life for himself out of that dedication of his life to service of the Church.

Further, you are confusing your analogies; women religious are spoken of as brides of Christ. Given that the Church is the Body of Christ, your analogy of a priest being married to the Body of Christ doesn’t quite make it.

The term “Three Minute Teachings” must refer to the amount of research put into the answers.

Seems as if it was written by high school kids.
