Acceptability of Cannibalism

Hi there. Curious about a few things. Here:

If two people are trapped somewhere without food of any kind, and the second one dies, is it morally acceptable for the first person to eat the second?
 
why on earth do you want to know if cannibalism is acceptable? seriously?
 
We do not know what is enough until we know what is too much.
 
In grave circumstances it would not be immorral to eat the flesh of someone already dead, although it would be pretty gross.

If you kill or maim to get that flesh though, the killing or maiming would be a sin.

If your life isn’t in danger you would be descrating a human body, something Christians hold to be sacred, and that would be a sin.

I don’t know.

It seems it would be commendable if you were to avoid cannibalism.

But maybe no one would blame you if you had to do it to survive.

Then again, no one would honor you.

For me, I would rather die knowing that I upheld the sanctity of the body.

Only If they die of natural causes.

If it were me, I’d wait for the vultures and other scavengers to come.

Then, I’d kill and eat the vultures or whatever else came. On the strength of that meal, I would then give the body a decent burial. 🙂

Helgasdogs has a valid question. There have been cases where this has happened (such as the Donner party that got snowbound in Colorado in the 1800s, and that South American rugby team whose plane crashed in the Andes in the 1970s…) . I have sometimes wondered about the morality of this myself.

Don’t knock it 'till you’ve tried it!

My mother-in-law makes tasty belt tips for the grill - marinaded overnight with a combo of A1 Steak Sauce sauce and thousand island dressing. !

(well…she calls it steak but it’s belt. we all know it)

HEY, my Dad used to make that for us, when we would go to his place on weekends, just after the divorce. (He quit making it and started making normal food when one of his girlfriends took him to cooking class with her.)

My own opinion is this. If you are in a life or death situation and the person has died from no actions on your part(and you did all that you could do to save them) then cannibalism is forgivable. Of course this would be an extreme situation and if you could at all avoid the situation then you should do so. I sincerely hope that none of us are ever faced with such a choice.

There was a documentary on Cannibalism not that long ago. I think that it was aired on either the History or Discovery channel. Did you watch that?
 
Sorry this thread is quite tasteless. Forgive the pun. There are things expressly forbidden and (in my not so humble opinion) eating another human is one of them.
 
This is an interesting question, that deserves some serious thought. I remember when I was about 18 watching a movie with my then boyfriend. If I remember right the movie was called Alive. It was supposed to have been a true story about a plane that crashed into a mountain. It may have been one of the crashes mentioned above. Some of the people died and some did not. The people that lived ended up being stuck on that snow bound mountain for so long(days) that they did actually have to discuss eating the flesh of the dead. They took it very seriously too. One reason this movie has stuck with me is because after they came to the decision they said a Hail Mary before eating. I found it very interesting that they would ask for our Lady’s intercession.

I am asking seriously and respectfully.

Where does it say that cannibalism of the already dead for the sake of survival is not allowed?

I pray that I am never in this situation but if my children’s life depended on eating another person, I would advise them to do so.(I am shuddering as I write this)
