Acceptable container for a Rosary?

I bring my Rosary to school daily but I never had something good to keep it in. I recently started keeping it in my pocket. But whether I keep it there or not, its chains always disconnect and I have to fix it up. I asked my parents for help with this and they gave me a small capsule thing that used to be used for my dog’s medicine. I’m confident this will solve the disconnecting problem, but the concept of it worries me. Is a dog medicine bottle an acceptable place to keep a Rosary?

I noticed that it doesn’t seem like there’s a good answer here. If i do keep it there, it would be wrong because it’s an innapropriate container for something holy. If I don’t, it gets messed up again when I take it to school and that would also be sinful because I’m taking poor care of something holy. If I don’t take it at all, then I can’t pray it (I suppose I could just say the prayers without it) and a lose a good opportunity to pray. Which decision do I make?
 
In addition to the suggestion above, you might also consider a small coin purse. Alternatively, some hobby shops carry small velvet-like cloth bags with drawstrings.

Another option might be to switch to a finger rosary (sometimes called a rosary ring) for daily use, and keep the regular rosary at home or in the car.

I like knot rosaries or those on string for this reason, chain rosaries always break sooner or later. any container that is clean and does the job is fine. main thing is that you always have it with you.
 
Usually Catholic Bookshops and religious item suppliers sell Rosary Purses…very small purses in various soft materials that hold a Rosary and that’s about all. Usually not at all expensive.
 
Our parish gift shop sells a rosary bracelet. You can wear it and just take it off when you want to pray it. They have many different styles and some don’t look like rosaries unless you were to look at it close up. I have one that is great when walking. I don’t have pockets on sweat pants and have no place to keep my rosary when finished so the bracelet one works fine.
 
You can keep your rosary in the medicine container. Or you can say your rosary on your fingers.
 
I do the same thing. I put my Rosary in my pocket where it is at the mercy of other things in the same pocket (my keys and my cell phone). Same thing happened a lot (chain comes apart). Pulling out my keys is usually what does it (if a key catches the Rosary).

I got a more sturdy Rosary and it has been months. It hasn’t broken.

The bookstore where I bought many of my rosaries also makes some rosaries. And they repair (for free) my rosaries when the chain has come loose. Of course if there are beads or other parts to replace it costs me a little (usually less than $1).

There is such a thing as a Rosary bag (small cloth bag with a drawstring). I generally didn’t want to be bothered with it although I tried it for awhile. If you must have it inside something, I’ve found that putting it inside a small sock can help. Then put the sock in your pocket. The Rosary is still fairly handy and yet it is protected.

Wooden Rosary beads can crack or break (if they are really cheap wooden beads).

So if you are a rough and tough kind of guy and you love to pray your Rosary – and wouldn’t want to be caught dead without one – make sure you have a Rosary that can stand up better without falling apart.

You might also try using a fabric or leather business card holder (the kind that has a flap over the part where the business cards go). A coin purse will also do the trick.

I think it is fine to use the canister your parent`s gave you as well. The rosary should be respected, but it does not need to be held in a particular type of container.

Can one use pyx to keep the rosary? I often see people using it.
 
I’m not sure of the container, but if the rosary is with you, it sounds like it’s in the right place. You sound like a nice young man. God bless you. Keep up the good work. 🙂
 
I just keep mine in a coin purse from American Eagle…I agree with the previous posters, the main thing is that it’s with you. Rock on! 👍
 
When we bought bookbags for the kids for school, some of them came with a little black nylon coin purse with clip. Thats what I use and it fits right in my front pocket. Its only 2"x2", but holds a Benedictine Rosary with medels and a prayer card with the mysteries folded in half inside it. Perfect. Tim
 
I forgot that I have two cheap, plastic rosaries, athough one is broken. I’ll just bring the one in good condition to school and use my chain rosary at home.
