If someone wants to donate to medical research that is “Catholic acceptable”, i.e., medical research that does not conflict with Church teaching… what are some organizations that they might donate to?

You may wish to read over this article which addresses the work of Dr. Deisher in Seattle. Dr. Deisher received an award this month from Healing the Culture for her work. She is strongly committed to life and her research reflects this commitment.
I am posting links to the article which discusses Dr. Deisher and her work below, as well as links to two organizations in which she is heavily involved (Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute and AVM Biotechnology) and a link to Healing the Culture.

Article in Nature (an international weekly journal of science):

Thank you for the tip!!! I will look into it!

Oh for pete’s sake, does anyone else have any recommendations? I’m wondering why it is so hard to find acceptable medical charitable organizations. I recently came into a windfall, so I doubled my tithe for the month to the Church, but I also want to donate to medical research.

Hi VeritasLuxMea,
Here is a link to American Life League research that evaluates the pro-anti life attributes of many charities. I hope this is helpful.

Also, if you’ll scan to this article from Human Life International, you will find both critiques of several major charities for their anti-life activities, and some endorsements for various charities engaged in medical research as well as disaster relief and helping the poor/needy.

I would note that the article is a bit dated (2005) so before contributing-especially to breast cancer - you might want to call the organizations with a few hard questions.
May God bless your good work. Amen

Because nearly all of them are involved in embryonic stem cell or fetal tissue (obtained via abortion) research.
Is that true? Nearly all of them? That is so sad! Surely there must be some medical progress being made without such research?

Yes, nearly all of them. Certainly all of the major organizations you may want to donate to such as American Cancer Society, MS Society, etc.

There certainly are researchers doing research on adult stem cells, for example at the University of Maryland there are adult stem cell research projects. The problem is, that does not mean that no immoral research is taking place there by other research project teams via grants and/or federal funding.

I don’t know what to make of that. I certainly would not want to support any immoral behavior. But then, are we left without any options at all? I’ll have to research some of the links.
