The past five years of my life, have had various ups and downs. I have drawn closer to God and at times I was further away. I have come very far with my faith this year despite some of the serious sins I have committed. I come from a goody-two shoes Catholic family. None of my sisters have ever gotten in trouble in school or have done anything bad enough for my parents to intervene. I am the “rebellious” child. I guess I always feel somehow worse compared to my sisters. When my father corrects me about my bad language. It makes me skin boil. I understand foul language is unacceptable. It just does not feel like that big of a deal for me. Being corrected by petty things annoys me. I HAVE CAME SO FAR, I find saying “damn” or “s***” to be the least of my worries. It is really annoys me. because it feels like now matter how close I get I won’t ever be good enough. My father never really had to correct my other sisters for their language, come to school when they got into a fight. I am an adult now, I still have not shaken off some of my past failures during junior high and high school. It’s weird.

Nobody’s perfect! And besides, you shouldn’t compare yourself to your sisters. Guys and gals are different in their moral challenges. Be patient with yourself, but, also, remember that your dad is good to call you on stuff. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you or thinks you have to be perfect. It’s an excellent thing when we can get control over our speech though because self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. I struggle sometimes too with keeping my language clean when I get upset sometimes.

Try to ask yourself when you’re being corrected, is this person right to correct me? Usually people correct us for good reason and they often have our best interests at heart. It’s a sign of maturity and wisdom to be able to take a little correction in a positive way.

Your Father is correcting you because he loves you and wants what is best for you and your soul. Please accept his correction as coming from a loving, caring heart. Profanity really is not good – would you speak profanely in front of Jesus and Mary? If you were to, they’d be just as displeased as your Father is, for they love you and want your speech to be good and wholesome – for your sake and for the sake of those who have to hear the profanity. Be ye perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect, says Jesus. Even if we will never become perfect we still must try to become perfect, for Jesus has given us this precept. God bless you.

Lol.I hope i would not slip in front of Jesus. How embarrassing.

in my younger days, friends called me the potty mouth monk. I had to break the habit when I went to work in an office environment - well - for the most part. Sometimes emphasis cuss words are effective in a work environment for motivational purposes.

You are an adult now. Take your father’s (name removed by moderator)ut and do your own self improvement introspection as well.

Good for you and the progress you’re making with God’s help!! Keep up the good work.

Don’t give your sisters that much power over you. Listen to their admonishments with a smile and nod. Then keep doing whatever it is you were doing. Of course, always listen to see if there is some truth or something by which you’ll benefit. Otherwise politely disregard.

If I’m going to be wrong about something, there is nobody I’d rather be wrong around, than Jesus. Because not only would he know precisely how and why I’m wrong, He could correct me in His loving way. :hug3:

I’d much rather be corrected than to persist in error. 🤷

Much better than being wrong around a human being who judges and exploits the wrong, and/or punishes me for it. :slapfight:

Jesus calls those who walk with Him, friends. (Jn 15:15) I don’t see Him as waiting to do harm against us the moment we make a mistake. If Jesus won’t condemn whores and drunkards and murderers, I’m not afraid of an “oops” or two in His presence. :o

Besides, we are always in His presence so there is no case in which we will be wrong and He won’t know about it. :hmmm:

Yes, Jesus knows our hearts and is slow to anger and ready to forgive. He knows when a person is trying his very best to avoid sin. He knows that a good person flies from near occasions of sin like the plague and thinks before speaking and is very cautious about the words that issue from his mouth. He loves that a good person would rather die than commit a deliberate venial sin. God bless you.

Hey, this is a month after your first post. I lived in a community of lay missionaries for 5 years and the brothers had a hard time correcting me. So you learn a lot in a setting of family. One thing about me was possibly the opposite of you explained: I hide my imperfections really well. But after a while people will see them and they make people’s blood boil. I might be a goodie-two-shoes like you said, actually! But maybe you’re (here comes the thing opposite of what you might think!) imperfections are more obvious to others. I really think God designed it this way for some. It helps us become a saint. Actually, I read an article lately that when St. Therese was a little girl and her mother referred to her as her “little imp”, she really kinda meant it! I mean, she was an adorable child, but was not outwardly or obviously becoming the great saint that she had become. Celine was the easy one and was considered the saint of the family. Celine showed outward piety and I think patience as well. But look who became a saint and a doctor of the church!

So no need to be discouraged. If its frustrating, you may be called to thank God for making it obvious what you need to do differently. It can be really difficult as I hear it in your post. But, perfect this one little thing, and you could blow everyones mind by becoming a great saint. And I also hear you say you want to be a saint. My boy, you are on your way. That is a desire from God. You posted in great place to hear the right stuff.

Remember to keep up a good prayer life. It is only by the grace of God that we can do anything good!

In Christ,

Ed Hamilton

Why do you think God makes some people’s faults more transparent than others? Most people would love for their faults to only be between themselves and God/hidden. We always choose to sin. Some sins are just so personal or easier to hide than others.
