In theory, I believe in accepting others. It is a different story to put it into practice in a genuine manner.
If I think about someone I haven’t seen in years, it is a lot easier to accept they have a different view point. However, when I have to deal with some, eg a co-worker, neighbor, member of my parish and I really disagree with something that is going on, it is harder. Of course the first step is to bit ones tongue. But that is only going to get me so far. At some point, I need to really respect this person as they are regardless of what they think and do.
So how to get to that point? A friend once told me that she always says to herself ‘I try to remember this is the person Jesus died for’ Well, true enough, but it still does not bring me to the point where I can honestly say I accept the way he/she is. How to get to that point?
