Accident or Providence?

This is a topic that was inspired by another thread. Did blind fate determine for all of us to discuss things? Do accidents happen in God’s world? How about the life of Joseph, or Job in regards to this topic. Do accidents happen in God’s world, or do you believe in divine providence?

Back to the thread topic. Do we agree with this definition of providence?

Providence –

“The unceasing activity of the Creator whereby, in overflowing bounty and goodwill, He upholds His creatures in ordered existence, guides and governs all events, circumstances, and free acts of angels and men, and direct everything to is appointed goal, for His own glory” – Theologian J.I. Packer

hi fbl9
I will ask you the same central questions as Angel Unawares…

What were you saved from, and what were you saved for?
first one is real easy i am being saved from myself
second one a little harder but not to bad…for His purpose.
i am a farmer so i get to be very close to His creation everyday…i see His works and i see His generousity towards mankind every day…in fact iam co-operating with Him in all my work…i put the seed in the ground but i do not make it grow ,that’s His job…👍

It doesn’t seem you got along with that Reformed guy. Maybe it’s a good thing they banned that character. I’m not sure if we have been formally introduced. My name is Underdog. The U stands for our vital union with Jesus Christ. I don’t care if you are Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, or Protestant. My mission is to point everyone to Jesus Christ, and to increase our affection for God in Christ.

Our vital union with Jesus Christ!
It doesn’t seem you addressed my questions, yet again. You change the subject at will and only say let’s get back to the topic at hand in an apparent attempt to avoid answering the questions. It appears the U stands for unwilling to answer questions, as if you want to avoid having to tell the truth as scriptures tells us we must do. Otherwise you could answer a simple yes or no question and put all this to rest, instead of the continued avoidance of the subject.

Are you the person who used the name Reformed on CAF and was banned earlier this year?

Too direct, or too tough?

How about these simple yes or no questions?

Aren’t you an inspector for fire/ems systems/departments in your area?

Don’t you live in the Pacific Northwest?

Your mission is to point everyone to Jesus Christ? Are you saying Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, or Protestants do not know Christ already? Are you teaching a different Christ than those religions already know?

For those who continue to try to side-track this thread on some kind of Salem witch hunt, please try to discuss the thread topic. Do you mind addressing this definition of providence?

Let’s burn those non-Catholics at the stake.

If you will provide answers, that I automatically assume would be answered truthfully by a Christian, I will address your definition of providence, unless addressing the definition causes you to change the topic to God’s grace…

That’s like thinking Mormonism spawned from Protestantism…err wait a minute, they did. Nevermind. 😛

There is no such thing as chance…so…in answering the thread title…there is no “accidents”…so, yes…my answer is Providence.

If the views on double predestination are true, then why does Jesus and the Holy Spirit have to pray? Shouldn’t things just work since God foreordained everything?

What, then, is the purpose of our having to pray if God has it all figure out who are the sheep and who are the goats?

In this philosophy of double predestination, prayer can not do anything except be the prayer that God foreordained to have prayed and ones that He foreordained which would be answered and which would not be.

So, why should we pray if God is going to make it happen the way He planned it any way?

Honestly...I just want to understand your viewpoint. If you sincerely think I am in error with my beliefs as a Catholic, then please present your views to me in a way that I can agree with them. No offense, but all I ever experience from a Calvinist is disparaging remarks and no true Christian charity shinning from the way they defend their faith. All I ever seem to get in response is negative remarks of misrepresented and misguided understandings of Catholicism and then no genuine effort to try to explain their beliefs.

If you truly want to save souls...you would relate to people on a human level and not in a Scripture slinging, picture posting manner. Do not get me wrong, Scripture is important, but when one just pastes verse after verse and never seems to offer any kind of exegesis...it is unconvincing (for lack of a better word).

I think Christians are saved from the wrath of God, by God, and to and for God. God does all things for His own glory and name sake. God is the most God- centered being of all existence. Here are some simple scriptures to start with: We as Christians need to move from being man-centered (what God can do for me), to God-centered for His glory and our joy. I think our errors as 21st century Christians really have nothing to do with being Catholic or Protestant. We have lost focused of the reason God has reconciled us through His Son. Life is all about the glory of God, enjoying Him.

Psalm 79:9
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake!

Psalm 115:1
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!

Isaiah 48:11
For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another

Ephesians 1
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
