I think the US Bishops have pretty much settled this issue. Now, as the US has a pro-abortion Catholic on the Democratic ticket for President, Catholics can accept the Bishops’ guidance or not.

Of course you can’t…but neither can you be an authentic Catholic if you are only pro-birth and not pro-life…some Catholics don’t know the difference.

I think that most Catholics who are pro-birth are also pro-life. And I think that many Catholics use your argument to justify being pro-abortion in “certain cases.” The problem with that is that people add their “certain case” to the list of “Catholic-acceptable abortions,” and before you know it, a sizeable number of Catholics, especially prominent ones like Vice Pres. Biden, are “Catholic-anti-bad-birth-situations”, which really means “pro-abortion.”

As long as a human being dies, it is abortion, and it is not acceptable for Catholics or any Christians.

This is . . . ridiculous . . . and . . . is propagated by those who need to assuage their guilt for endorsing and voting for pro abort candidates.

I had not seen that argument until recently. Fact is that voting gives us a binary choice: republican or democrat (no other candidates have a statistical chance of winning). Thus Catholics selecting between the two get a choice of the lesser of two evils. We ask Catholics must then weight the choices…and thus no other evil weighs as much as hundreds and thousands of aborted babies.

  1. In your haste to make everything political (the OP was addressing Catholicism, not political ideology), you glossed over my first words, where I agreed with the OP that, in my opinion, “you can’t be an authentic Catholic and pro-abortion”
Of course you can’t
2, And your retort, not considering what I had posted, is offensive and uncharitable. I would hope you don’t make a habit out of calling everyone who you mistakenly believe are not in agreement with you is a liar.

Defection on your part.Maybe you didn’t understand your own response. However I did.” One cannot be truly pro life if only pro birth. “
Translation: Republicans only care about the baby until it’s born.
Heard that ridiculous assertion a lot on this forum.
Not hard to read between the lines of your uncharitable and false claim🤨

Neither of the candidates on either ticket are pro life. So really abortion is a moot point in this election.

The church doesn’t say you cant vote for a candidate that is pro choice. They say you cant vote for one because they are pro choice.

There are many Catholics who are pro a lot of things which are against the church’s teachings including the clergy themselves. We are all sinners, and unless we are going to establish a sin scale which one has to be at a certain position on in order to call themselves Catholic not sure how we determine authentic Catholics.

I only recall Catholic, not Republican or Democrat in my response. I did not and will not make the claim Republicans only care about birth and not the other needs of life…you did that yourself, and, again in your haste to turn a question on religion into pushing a political agenda, I would think you may have offended many Republicans

Huh? I got the inference from your post.It clearly was a subtle jab at republicans,of which I am one.I didn’t offend myself and any other republican, your post is nonsensical

I can’t account for someone jumping to conclusions because of what might be their own guilty conscience…if that’s the inference you walked away with, I offer my apologies and will accept your apologies for implying I am a liar

This is not a difficult task when there is a willful denial and a blatant disregard for the teachings of the Church.

You can be anything you want! I’m not sure what your point is…welcome to CAF!

So I can’t be against murder without thinking that people should be forced to pay the victim’s mother?
dscath is referring to those who are only anti abortion but either reject or ar indifferent to the rest of the Church’s prolife teachings. ie abolishing the death penalty, compassion for refugees, the effect of environmental abuse on poverty in developing nations. The effect of corporate greed on the welfare of the poor and marginalised. Those are all issues the Church regards as part of being unconditionally prolife.

Problem is Pres Trump is pro abortion as well. I hesitate to use the phrase pro abortion, because I do not believe either men are rooting for abortion, but many see it that way.

Trump has been adamant about allowing exceptions where abortion must be legal. When you couple that fact with his brutal immigration policies, his staunch pro death penalty stance and his preferential option for the rich, you will have a tough time convincing many Catholics that he is prolife

We will have to use our consciences to vote for the lesser of two evils when considering Trump and Biden for President.

Personally, I’ll try to determine which candidate is closest to pro life for the whole life.
