I admire very much the old-time actors and actresses — they lived in a time when concepts of style, propriety, clearly defined gender roles, and sharp dress and grooming were the order of the day. It is true that a lot of sordidness lay beneath the surface facade presented to the public, but at least the ideal was upheld. Catholic stars such as Bing Crosby, Loretta Young, and Danny Thomas were well-known to be faithful Catholics, and set a good example for the public. We do have some stars and public figures nowadays that uphold good morals and sound values — Mark Wahlberg (despite his past), Tim Tebow (not Catholic, but embodies solid Christian virtues that anyone can admire), and now, apparently, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. That’s good. We need more.
