I have seen death and most people suffer in one way or the other. My mother passed away quietly in a TV community room watching TV. She was very ill for a couple months, hard to know what kept her alive.

I worked in a nursing home and did a rather poor job as an orderly taking care of male patients. I elderly man spoke to me unexpectedly, when I was turning him in bed. His face brightened up with a smile as he explained that he was a happy man. because he had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

I was speechless, didn’t even thank him for those inspiring words. He was one out of about a hundred men I took care of over the course of a year. It’s good to praise the Lord when we can, as we may get to a day when we don’t have the strength to do even that.

My prayers for all who suffer pain, the loss of independence, and especially those who have no hope. So many of these old men died alone. It is impossible for a family to be there all the time. There was a woman who came in to help her husband every day, who was severely handicapped, and it turned out she passed away suddenly one day before he did.

There was some spiritual support there, but it was not 24/7, for sure.
