In 1980 Africa had 58 million Catholics. Now it has 198 million. The Catholic population in Europe, on the other hand, grew only 6% then. Large families in Africa account for this inadequately. The Catholic Church meshes with the spiritual values of Africans, it is said. While the West is materialistic and secularized, Africans “depend on God for sustenance, for existence, and for meaning.” Putting religious services into local languages after Vatican II is also said to have helped greatly.

I hope we can do the same in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

God bless Africa.

The seeds planted from the generalization to Africa are sprouting and bearing fruit.

I hope they send us many priests.

And maybe we’ll see our next African Pope (I think 5 already have been from Africa).
