In the 1670s a French nun, Margaret Mary Alacoque, had extraordinary supernatural visions of Jesus and his love. Her experiences, which later were authenticated by the Church, have come to be revered by Catholics over the whole world with great devotion. During these visions Jesus revealed his sacred heart, symbol of the boundless love of Jesus by which he redeemed us. Jesus told her to begin a feast of the sacred heart, which the Church now holds every year. These visions are described in the link below.
