I was looking up youtube videos and one was “Can a Goth Be Christian” in which I commented on how the early church converted many aesthetics to worship God and how Gothic Fashion and to a degree, subculture can be converted as such in which I got a rather blunt and obnoxious reply by “DIVERSITY EMPOWER NETWORK” who said this

" YOUR SPEAKING OF CATHOLICS WHO WORSHIP IDOLS AND PRACTICE RITUALISTIC WITCHCRAFT, I LOVE THE PEOPLE BUT NOT THEIR SIN OF IDOL WORSHIP, SPIRITUAL HARLOTRY MIXING OF PAGANISTIC PRACTICES WITH CHRISTIANITY GRIEVES GOD "

anyone up for discussing this?

My contribution to the discussion is that you should perhaps find a more productive use of your time than watching and discussing this sort of junk on Youtube.

Pray for that disturbed, misguided and/or trolling person, and move on.

These are all gross misrepresentations of the Catholic faith.

As soon as they said Catholics worship idols you should have stopped reading and realized they had know idea what they were talking about.

Majority of Catholics don’t worship statues like people who don’t understand the faith say the same way you don’t worship a picture of your family just because you have a statue or a picture does not mean you worship them.

A lot of these people say Rome’s church is Babylon also not true it was formed by a apostle of God Jesus yes before the Roman Empire adopted the faith they were pagan they converted these people try to twist the truth Roman Catholics follow on the teaching of God from Judaism.

You are suggesting that one can be Catholic and Pagan. I don’t think that is possible.

You either commune with God or with demons. Both are religious practices and are distinct; not intermingled.

My point is aesthetics as long as its not something rancid like pornography or Nazisism can be claimed by the church to serve God, like how the church converted the Celtic Knot to represent the trinity or how one in Japan can build a church styled like a Pagoda or how the church used a Phoenix to represent Jesus’s resurrection

My point is most aesthetics can be converted from pagan meaning to Christian, not all of them but some.

So, is this culture France? Notre Dame with its gothic symbols?

Well I know we’ve made Art Deco churches and portrayed Jesus and Mary as many races and cultural art styles.

I’m not saying we would adapt Goth in a dark way but perhaps use it in storytelling. The manga D.Gray-Man had used it to portray Exorcists as vanquishers of darkness, often using the light of the moon to portray them as the light in the darkness

Soul Eater used the forces of the Grim Reaper to be forces to fight against death and madness and its implied in the anime that Lord Death aka Shinigami-Sama is an angelic being sent by a higher power to protect humans. He even made himself look and sound silly to be approachable to humans, kinda like how the Wizards in Tolkien’s universe are lower level angels who took on the forms of old men to be easily approachable to mortals such as elves, men, and dwarves

From an Anthropologic perspective, I believe the Church bears fruit; Jesus mentioned that it would (The parable of the Mustard Seed). In doing so, it has rooted out various pagan cultures, practices, peoples. Yet, even in the U.S., paganism still exists.

Catholicism is a blending of many cultures, but we worship the one True God. So, it can’t be paganistic; in fact, it is has taught against Pagan practices for centuries and has destroyed pagan temples or converted them into places where bread is broken.

The apex of the Church growing like a mustard plant would probably be the conversion of the Roman Empire with decree from Constantine the Great. The roots were strong and deep, the flowers were abundant, the pollen was being released on large scale, and the leaves were deep green and lively.

I agree there are realities in Pagansim, but ugly realities. Deception is part of reality. However, Truth would be a better word if reserves for speak of that which is real and true; not real and untrue.

As it relates to morals–Yes. Christianity is more than morals.

I won’t flag you for sharing your beliefs. I respect your opinion. Yet, don’t agree with your opinion.

I would add that violence is o.k. per the church when used in self defense (and maybe self defense is in itself a word that distinguishes itself from violence even though the acts are the same in that they lead to death/destruction). So to say that the Church went around with a sword at all times is probably a stretch, to say the least.

Anti-Catholic trash ( the caps part). Not to be taken seriously.

You have two choices. You can have a conversation through YouTube messages and try and correct the person. It probably won’t work because they are to set in their beliefs. I’ve seen some of these go on and on and on and on… Your other choice is just to ignore the person and pray for their conversion.

Or a third option, a short, “We don’t worship the Saints or Mary, we honor them” and leave it at that. The second option is probably your best bet. You can also block them so you don’t see their post anymore.

Me on the other hand, I normally like this kind of stuff so I end up wasting time debating them till they get sick of me, lol.
