Hi guys…
Can you all please enlighten me about the purpose of Baptism as a sacrament to wash away Original Sin? What is the point of removing the stains of original sin when we continue to be sinful in nature after our Baptism? **So what difference does Baptism make to our inherently sinful nature? **I have also read somewhere that if you were to die immediately after baptism, you will go straight to Heaven, implying that the sacrament removes all the temporal punishment of sin (accumulated before baptism) as well, instead of having us suffer from the remains of it through purgatorial fire…So, to be selfish about it, isn’t it better to baptise at a later date, (leave for the fact that you don’t actually know when you’ll die)…?
I understand baptism is needed for us to be Born Again and to enter God’s kingdom, but I don’t see how this act of removing the ‘stains of Original Sin’, whatever is meant by that, is supposed to help us to walk in the newness of life.
