Sandra Tanner, an evangelical Christian working out of Salt Lake City, does not see eye to eye with the Catholic Church in many matters. But her research is impeccable. Go here:

You need to do EXACTLY as she recommends, or else you will have home teachers and the Relief Society shadowing you for years. Excommunication is not final. It merely puts your name in the queue as a candidate for discipline and re-baptism. Take this as an affirmative opportunity to profess the Nicene Creed to those of your former LDS connection. Bear your testimony, as it were…because now you have a new testimony! I believe!

The letter MUST be directed to the stake and ward where your permanent record card is presently located, or else it will get lost in the paper mill.

And now, a word of congratulations to you! Your election is coming! Your true baptism awaits at Easter! Thanks be to God for your faith! You will be in my prayers this Lent as you prepare to enter Christ’s Church–and welcome, welcome, welcome!

I’ve never requested name removal from the Mormons, and they don’t come around trying to get me to do Mormon stuff. I’ve been more of the who-cares-they-have-my-name-on-a-list kind of person. I didn’t know such a request was possible until long, long after I had left Mormonism and was an atheist. At that point, I saw no point!

I get mailings from them once in a while, and have seen my name and birth date printed in their ward bulletin. I don’t know any of the people in “the ward”. Someone puts my name in a bulletin because it’s on a list. I find it humorous. In short…it has nothing to say to my humanity, the reality of Jesus Christ. It’s just background noise.
