Acts 2:38 and baptism. how to answer my aunt

Ok my aunt does not believe in Trinitarian formula for baptism as i do as a Catholic. She put of pic on facebook about being baptised in the non Trinitarian formula. She mentioned acts 2:38. That says to be baptized in the name of Jesus. How do i respond??? I have no idea. And also what formula was used to baptize Jesus and the apostles etc? Thanks.

When Jesus told the apostles (in Matthew 28:19), “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit”, Jesus got it wrong, but when (in Acts 2:38), Peter says, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins”, Peter got it right?

As a Bible-believing Christian, she’s really saying that she takes Peter’s words over Jesus’s? (You’d think that’s what she might accuse us Catholics of doing… )

In any case, Peter is preaching Jesus to the crowds. So, naturally, he wants to emphasize that the baptism he’s talking about isn’t the baptism of John, or any of the ritual washings of the Jews or Essenes, or any of the Greek pagan (mystery cult) rituals. Rather, this is a baptism in Jesus’s name (which, if we recall from Matthew 28:19, from the mouth of Jesus himself, is a baptism in a Tridentine formula).

In addition to the already excellent answer above, there is the Didache - an early Catechism - written before 150 AD which says this…
Chapter 7. Concerning Baptism. And concerning baptism, baptize this way: Having first said all these things, baptize into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, in living water. But if you have no living water, baptize into other water; and if you cannot do so in cold water, do so in warm. But if you have neither, pour out water three times upon the head into the name of Father and Son and Holy Spirit. But before the baptism let the baptizer fast, and the baptized, and whoever else can; but you shall order the baptized to fast one or two days before.
The dating of this document indicates that it was written by someone very closely associated with the Apostles themselves.

The Biblical foundation of the Trinitarian form comes from St. Matthew 28:19 while Patristically it is refered to by St. Justin Martyr (100-165), St. Irenaeus of Lyons (130-202) and Tertullian of Carthage (160-225).

The First Apology of St. Justin, 61. Christian Baptism:

For, in the name of God, the Father and Lord of the universe, and of our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Spirit, they then receive the washing with water.

Against Heresies by St. Irenaeus, Book 3, Chapter 17:

And again, giving to the disciples the power of regeneration into God, He said to them, “Go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

On Baptism by Tertullian, Chapter 13:

For the law of baptizing has been imposed, and the formula prescribed: “Go,” He says, “teach the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
