I am taking a course about martyrdom in Christianity and Islam. We are on Christianity right now. My professor had me read a text that was supposed to analyse martyrdom, but ended up being a constant bash on Christianity. One of the particular parts that bothered me was that it suggested that the Acts of the Apostles promoted chastity for everyone, even within marriage, which would result in the end of society. I know this is BS, but I know that I have heard something about Paul saying that it is more holy to be chaste, but if you have to get marrried, go ahead and do so.

Can someone clear this up for me, so I have some firepower in our class discussions?

You seem to be confusing chastity with celibacy. Chastity does not mean no sex.
 
I believe you are talking about 1 cor. 7:32-34 But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord: but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife and his interests are divided. The woman who is unmarried, and the virgin, is concerned about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
