Ad Orientem

I know that in the EF mass the celebrant faces Ad Orientem which is facing East, and with the celebrant facing the same direction in which the congregation is facing.

My Question is, in the OF mass, can a priest celebrate the Novus Ordo mass ad orientum.
Is it allowed, and licit?

This was on my mind during adoration, and I was thinking about how these High Altars don;t get used anymore, and it would be nice to use them every once in a while.

I consider myself a traditional Catholic (Not traditionalist), I love the OF mass, but I like it celebrated reverently. But above all I love the Eucharist.

It is not only licit, but the rubrics of the Latin Typical Edition pre-suppose it will be offered ad orientem. Included among the rubrics are instructions that the priest will turn to the people at the Dominums Vobiscum and other points during the liturgy.

Ad Orientem is perfectly legit and I see it when I attend an Anglican use community. I prefer it. But for my wife’s sake, with a Protestant background, I attend a parish that uses the OF. However, the OF is a much higher quality than the Anglican use parish. Opinions are irrelevant to me on the subject because both forms are valid. But since this is not a “Protestant” worship and a liturgical worship, the priest should face Ad Orientem. But try telling that to most priests or bishops.

Yes, it is completely licit. This^^^, however, is just a persistent myth. The rubrics presume that the priest may be offering the Mass ad orientem. They studiously avoid telling the priest to turn; they merely state which things must be said facing the congregation and which must be said facing the altar. These directions may well both be the same.

Yes, it is allowed and licit. Our priest celebrates OF Mass ad orientem. He’s a do the red and say the black man.

We don’t have a redundant high altar. I think it was ripped out many years ago. Our priest celebrates ad orientem at the free-standing altar. This was used by his predecessors to celebrate versus populum.
