Why are so many priests and bishops hostile to ad orientem worship when it is the traditional and ancient way in which the church has celebrated her liturgy?

The reform of the reform would be empty without a return to this practice and I echo Cardinal Robert Sarah’s (Prefect of the Congregation of the Divine worship and discipline of the sacraments) call for a return to this way of worship at the beginning of advent this year.

Maybe one reason is because they don’t want their parishes to become yet another victim of the liturgy wars.

It may be an ancient practice, but it has never by any means been a universal practice. And I have a 1934 Ceremonial to prove it. This is especially true in monastic tradition where a community dimension was always very strong.
