So what about all the science that says they didn’t live near one another?
I ignore it because that science is based on populations in the hundreds. Catholic doctrines are based on an originating population of two. I prefer the Catholic explanation. 😃

Science is not “based on populations in the hundreds”. Science is based on what nature shows us, if you like it or not.

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

My apology.
I should have said that the scientifc evolution model is based on populations descending from populations. However, nature itself does not pop up signs giving the population figure for specific areas in specific years. That is an American thing at the entrance to a town or city.

Ok. Well, for me, it has to line up with what we know from science. 😉

What were these hominids? People or animals like the apes we have today? Where does the belief that God bestowed souls into two hominids come from?

Peace,
Ed
It’s a theory I read by Ed Feser, and they’d be human like, but not human because they had no souls.

Hans, do you have an answer to my question?
I suggested an article to read in Post #7, but you rejected it in Post #8.
Not sure what you are after. I am not a biologist. I recommend looking at unbiased scientific articles (science should be unbiased anyway) looking at this question. Most papers will be too technical.

I would search popular books, writings and talks of Christian biologists. I can recommend Ken Miller (Catholic), Francis Collins and Denis Lamoureux. I guess that your question will be relevant and important to many Christians. It doesn’t give me sleepless nights.

When scientists say that Adam and Eve didn’t live near each other and couldn’t have mated, are they talkng about MitE and Y Chrom. Adam and not the real Adam and Eve?

Are they always only talking about MitE and YChrom Adam or are there others that they are talking about?

And yes, I know that wasn’t their real names and I am talking about the A and E of Genesis

I mean when we read about scientists saying Adam and EVe didn’t live close, in the same region, are they just talking about MIT Eve and Y Chromosomal. Adam or are they the scientists, talking about others?

The Church tells us an individual Adam lived, and an individual Eve was formed from Adam’s side by God when He placed Adam in a deep sleep. I don’t buy the non-scientific speculation for a second.

The soul is theology, not science.

Science cannot comment on the supernatural.

I’ll stick with what the Church teaches.

You never know, on the Internet. Anyway, congrats on your ordination. (I thought you were a mom, because of your user name.)

Does this mean that

Does the quote below mean that mitochondrial Eve and Y chromnosomal
Adam were traceable to the same place? I’me confused because of the wording and because the previous sentence says something about a “small population.”

reasons.org/articles/when-did-mitochondrial-eve-and-y-chromosomal-adam-live

<<<<<<<<<< To put it simply, molecular anthropology supports a recent origin of humanity from a small population near where theologians think the Garden of Eden was located and traceable back to single ancestral sequences for mitochondrial and Y chromosomal DNA. This is significant in light of the biblical account of humanity’s origin. There is no scandal. There is no controversy. The scientific and biblical stories of human origins harmonize quite well>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Here is where a choice needs to be made.

Do we accept the assumption of scientists which dates thousands of years going backwards? Or do we accept Divine Revelation which actually begins at the dawn of real human history?

Do we prefer guess work over the teachings of the Holy Spirit?

Granted that the scientifc assumptions of human origin are based on fossils and mathematic formulas – and that is proper in the natural science domain. There are assumptions which are valid; for example, the difference in fossil species between those archaic beings which traveled on all fours and those which walked upright. The difference in skull size is “hard data.”

Do we want to live and die in the material/physical world of human science? Or do we want to live and die in the spiritual world of God our Creator?

*The Catholic Church has always taught that “no real disagreement can exist between the theologian and the scientist provided each keeps within his own limits. . . . If nevertheless there is a disagreement . . . it should be remembered that the sacred writers, or more truly ‘the Spirit of God who spoke through them, did not wish to teach men such truths (as the inner structure of visible objects) which do not help anyone to salvation’; and that, for this reason, rather than trying to provide a scientific exposition of nature, they sometimes describe and treat these matters either in a somewhat figurative language or as the common manner of speech those times required, and indeed still requires nowadays in everyday life, even amongst most learned people” (Leo XIII, Providentissimus Deus 18).

As the Catechism puts it, “Methodical research in all branches of knowledge, provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things the of the faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are” (CCC 159). The Catholic Church has no fear of science or scientific discovery."*

A partial quote. Adam and Eve are real. They are our first parents.
