Do you realize the link you posted is to biologos?

Biologos is a website of Christian scientists who are opposed to YEC.

Did you even read the article you linked, or would you like me to copy and paste the relevant things from it?

Start here, it’s written specifically for the layman.

The Ordinary Magisterium is infallible. The Ordinary Magisterium is expressed by the consistent witness of the bishops in every time and place. The witness of the 5000 bishops currently on this planet isn’t necessarily definitive…but it cannot be dismissed.

I am an equal opportunity poster. You can see it supports the soft tissue finding.

In every time and place. Tradition cannot be dismissed as it is based on Revelation.

Genesis was absolutely written as a historical document and the Catholic Church has always taken it that way.
Catholic Schools including those under ultimate influence of a Bishop do not feel the slightest inclination to teach that all life on earth originated 5778 years ago, though this is the common literalist’s conclusion from the Bible. I know of know Vatican documents that direct schools to teach this historical interpretation of the Early parts of the Bible.

No, this is an age that was computer by Ussher. (who was not a Catholic) There are issues with it. He could be off significantly, but not 13 billion years. The Bible makes no mention of the age of the earth.

We are left with science to try to come up with its best estimate. Estimates though are based on assumptions and the current dating is not empirically provable.

(An old /pol trick)

There is no date on life on earth either.
That is vehemently denied by the literalist readers of genesis who place the “six days” of creation 5778 years ago (and argue that while the earth may have preexisted at that time point, the sun did not…). Here is one:
Glark on the evolution contradicts catholicism thread

To be clear, I am not a supporter of that position, but it is claimed to be a position arrived at by a strict literal reading of the Bible.

No it isn’t. It is derived from using the dates in the geneaologies.

Seriously? This article gets it wrong in just the first 4 words: “A recent archaeological discovery…”
