There was definately two “first” humans. Science has shown us that there is a “mitochondrial Eve.” That is, a women that every human being alive today is descended from. She lived about (I believe off of the top of my head) around 100,000 years ago. We know about her through molecular genetic evidence and we know of her time frame of existence due to the molecular clock calculated from internal evidences of the mitochondria.
Likewise, there is also a “Y-Chromosome Adam” that was the first male of our species. So yes, there were two “first” parents. Were these two formed from dirt approx. 6,000 years ago? For heavens sakes, NO. But, the exact date of their existence is not as important as the fact that they did exist.
Did the biblical authors believe they were really two peoples from around 4,000 b.c.? YES. But again, I would suggest that-that is irrelevant as they did not have the genetic evidence we have today. The length of time does nothing to change the fact that (whenever we came about) we fell into a state of sin and that God came to this world in the person of Jesus and brought about salvation for all who desire it.
Just my 2 cents though.

You say that it can be traced back to 100K years ago. This seems plausible to me. I have wondered about this subject myself, and one of the concepts I was trying to rationalize is that there could have been “Humans” around for how every many years they existed. However, at some point in human history man had developed intellectually enough to perceive God and communicate with Him, or that God saw that, at this point in time of human history, that man was intellectually advanced enough to reveal Himself to them and Start His relationship with us. Adam and Eve were the first two that were intellectually advanced enough to perceive and communicate with God. The reason I have come to this train of thought is after Cain killed Able in Genesis 4:13-17:
13 Cain said to the LORD: “My punishment is too great to bear.
14 Since you have now banished me from the soil, and I must avoid your presence and become a restless wanderer on the earth, anyone may kill me at sight.”
15 Not so!" the LORD said to him. “If anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged sevenfold.” So the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest anyone should kill him at sight.
16 Cain then left the LORD’S presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
17 Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. Cain also became the founder of a city, which he named after his son Enoch.
Who are the who would kill Cain
Who were all these people in the land of Nod where Cain had a wife
Who were all these folks in the city of Enoch
Seems like there were a lot of people outside the Garden of Eden who had not reached the intellectual capacity to perceive God or for God to reveal Himself to them.
These are just my random thoughts, to any official teachings that I have come across anywhere. Peace.
