Adam and Eve? Who was at fault?

For what? The fall? Our sinful condition and condemnation?

Adam is blamed by Paul in Romans 5 for our sinful condition.

Eve seems to be the instigator and we get the blame. Go figure.😉

Hi Michael. I was thinking along the line of the fall. God Bless.

Eve. Absolutely Eve. Adam was just standing around scratching and waiting for the halftime show to be over.

It is both Adam and Eve’s fault.

Eve for allowing herself to be tempted by the serpent, and Adam for allowing his wife to be tempted by the serpent.

I think Adam. He was supposed to be in charge but just stood by and watched Eve sin without comment; then did the same himself.

The men say Eve, she did it first.

The women say Adam’s was worse. It took the Devil himself to trick woman into sinning. For man, all it took was a woman. 😃

Seems to me there’s plenty of guilt to go around.

Not so. More than one male commentator, including the Apostle Paul, has noted that Adam is more culpable than Eve. Read the account of the temptation carefully. The entire time Eve and the Serpent debated, Adam stood by and did nothing. Then, when Eve gave him the fruit, Adam - the one who directly received the command from God not to eat from that particular treat - only opened his mouth long enough to take a bite.

Eve wrestled with a demon and lost. Adam didn’t even have the guts to do that.

what happened to two become one? ok since women are weaker inherently, that loosens the noose a little, She was given to Adam so I guess he is responsible in that way too but SHE did it…but then Satan wouldn’t dare even try to tempt Adam… Adam should take the heat

Isn’t there a line in the liturgy that says, “Oh happy fault, Oh necessary sin of Adam”

What Eve did was a mistake, a fault. She was weak and was fooled.

Did Adam take the fruit to become like God or to keep his place above Eve?

Joke. Note Smiley.

You ignored my real point at the end. Both sinned.

if he didn’t take the apple wouldn’t he have been a living rebuke to her and in that way been her saviour?

Only if he was willing to give his life for her I think. Some commentaries say that the serpent was threatening and Adam should have been protecting Eve, willing to die for her if need be. So Christ does what Adam should have done.

Adam was created first…he was in charge…and…the rest is history.

Adam probably didn’t want to eat of the forbidden fruit, but she kept nagging him until he gave in. Just kidding, of course. I think it is human nature to always want something you are not supposed to have. So it’s both their faults.

While both Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden fruit, it was Adam who was first given the opportunity to repent. Both Adam and Eve passed the buck rather than admit their fault, but consider where Adam tries to lay the blame.

Genesis 3:11-13
And God said to him, Who told thee that thou wast naked, unless thou hast eaten of the tree concerning which I charged thee of it alone not to eat?
And Adam said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me– she gave me of the tree and I ate.
And the Lord God said to the woman, Why hast thou done this? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me and I ate.

Both Adam and Eve were at fault, but Adam sinned much more by falsely accusing God.

John.

I have noticed, lately that God gets the rap for everything bad that happens:banghead: Now I know where that first cropped up.God Bless

In the Ancient Hebrew texts the evil one is not referred to as a serpent but as the Dragon, we know that this term has been used a thousand times by the fathers of the church even our Holy Mother has used this term. So how does this change anything? well who can picture a friendly Dragon saying nice things to Adam or Eve?.No the Devil only knows his way to overcome humans, Deceit, Threats and Violence. It was fear of death that kept Adam silent because at this stage they both only new what God had taught them “Love”, that is why Jesus and Mary undid what the first 2 Humans had done. Jesus would conquer death and fear and Mary would place satan under her heel by refusing to be tempted in any way.
The devil never lied to Adam and Eve he used cunning through truth to deceive them making them beleive that they would be more like God. This however was true, they gained knowledge that only God and satan possessd, the knowledge of Evil. Some even believe that Adam may have been resurrected had he died through an act of courage, this is not hard to understand since God was so pleased with his creation in the beginning it makes no sense to allow it to end at the hand of the evil one.
So it nolonger matters who did what for whatever reason, it only matters that Jesus undid the wrongdoing and as a result showed us the true meaning of life, death, truth and evil.

Hi John, Yes what really matters is that Jesus undid the wrongdoing,BUT Adam could have prevented the suffering. God Bless.

I thought it interesting why God sent them away from the Tree of Life. According to scripture, God sent the man and women out of the Garden so they won’t eat of the tree of life. If they were to eat of the tree of life they would live forever in their sinful state. God was showing them His love and mercy by not allowing them to remain in their sinful state. Pretty Cool!! 👍
