To give him credit, he has great comics that really answer to recent trends in religion and insights into Christianity. However personally I don’t want to read most of his comics.
He made this picture of the crucifix with all of our sins written on it. Good concept. Until you look closely at one of the words written in the picture:
One of the words that I was referring to is “Churchianity”, which I believe is a derogatory term used by Evangelical Protestants to describe any denomination of Christianity that has an ecclesiastical hierarchy - most especially the Catholic Church. I believe the line of thinking is that it assumes Christ and His Church are separate, and that people who are in these denominations who have faith in - or at least belong to - the Church are worshiping the Church and not Christ.
*Short apologetics (because I feel like ranting a little):
The Church is the Body of Christ, and the Bride of Christ. You can’t separate the two just like you can’t separate a head from its body or a husband and wife. They are one in the same. Christ established the Church - a community of believers whose authority on faith and morals comes from the Holy Spirit - so that He can provide us a way to go to Him. This Christ-church dichotomy is, I believe, an evangelical Protestant notion that a church is merely a community established by people and not something established by Christ
end rant
Which leads me to my assumption that the author of the adam4d comics is an Evangelical Protestant (probably Baptist). I pushed the randomizer button in his comics page and found several comics in which he criticized several Catholic concepts such as Purgatory, the hierarchy, Church authority, etc.
Just a word of caution. adam4d has some great comics about the Christian faith as a whole and in general. I am not discrediting him entirely. But if you want something that is closer to the Catholic faith, I guess… find somewhere else? Or make your own comics?
