When visitors came to look at the dogs with a view to possible adoption, Vicky began to listen carefully to their comments. A couple with two kids stopped to look at a dachshund, but the little boy laughed and said, “No, not that one! Its legs are too short!”

The cuckoo clocks kept poor Vicky awake all night. They were all showing different times. Whenever she managed to drop off to sleep, one of the clocks would immediately
